Little product review on 2 budget shocks....[thumbsdown]
My car is a "Street strip" car that puts on about 2-3K miles a year in our 5-6 month season between winter storage. After 10 years on the rear stock SLP bilsteins and the rest of my cars suspension replaced for drag parts I decided to try the COMP ENGINEERING 3way drag shocks. Now they do say for "drag racing use only" and they mean it. After 1 trip to the track with a 70mile drive each way they developed an annoying squeak and 1 was pumping oil out. Money wasted, trashed them, bilsteins back on. 60foots were identical between the stock bilsteins and them 1.61-1.65. Next I thought i'd give the Lakewood 50/50 non-adjustable "street strip" shocks. 60foots remained the same as the Bilsteins and Comps and they lasted the rest of last season(about 1500 miles) until the last race day of the year.....after my burnout I pull up to the line redline dump it as usual and thank goodness I have a 35spline 9" because my car was wheelhopping so bad I thought I was gonna split the car in half. After babying it down the track I pull back into the pits and push down on my rear end and it was like a blown air ride 90's caddy and both were pumping oil out the top. I could get that bitch bouncing like a ghetto donk with hydraulics. Bilsteins are back on and doing fine.
Moral of the story, you get what you pay for and maybe its because I street drove these shocks but don't make the mistake I did. Hold out for Afco, QA1, Strange etc...my front QA1 R's have 3 years on them and they perform like new yet.

Yes, 6400rpm on my car, pretty much every built rear and slicked 6speed does except with nitrous, anything less than that and it bogs, front end lifts then falls on its face.
If you think thats crazy here is a 6.0 T56 doing a 7800rpm launch http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...7800+dump&sm=3

You do get what you pay for, had a set that was leaking as soon as I got them out of the box, made me mad so I bought afcos. But my buddy bought a set used and has had them for acouple years and has cut 1.30 sixty foot times and run as fast as 9.95. Automatic car but you have to make sure everything else is right to lol.

@studderin, suspension is setup good, ONLY WHEELHOPPED 1 TIME with the LAKEWOODS when they BLEW lol, it never ever does otherwise haha. After that pass I could take both shocks and pull them in and out with ease squirting oil. 10 year old bilsteins launch hard and smooth every pass slightly pulling the front wheels with no nose dive.

It's always cute when jackass' with an auto comment on launching a manual trans, especially with no info on the track they are racing at. 3600pounds, 440whp with a 26" et street tire doing low 1.6's on Friday night street car shoot outs with little to no prep is damn good here, honestly the only car cars ive seen do 1.5's or better here on a Friday night is an 800+whp 9 second drag eclipse with slicks front and rear and a couple 30"+ big tire drag cars.

On normal race days it's prepped a lot more when the weekend regular bracket racers race but I only go on the once a month friday heads up street car shootouts where 99% of the vehicles are street tires or pickups with all terrains, in the tracks defense not really much reason to prep well for that.

Screw Friday nite TNT's
Like you said, ricers blowing oil, dragging water to the start line. 4x4's and mud tires, dirt bikes...not much fun for me.

We would recommend going with the double adjustable smooth body Viking shocks. They are built here in the USA and are perfect for this application. Give us a call and we can get you set up. We have been dealing with Viking longer than anyone else. It is a good product at a great price. They also offer a 2 year warranty and can be shipped the same day usually.

I bought the cheaper summit ones for 3rd gens. They are pretty retarded to set first go around but my friend got them where I wanted and they have been in for a few years with plenty of street driving and around 40 passes. Best 60 is a 1.50 popping the front tires but I am an auto with radials. I think I need more power to get any faster off of the line. Dry as a bone too, I got lucky.

Nice, you got lucky, my Comps started squeaking like a dog toy every bump the first ride home from the track with oil coming out of one, can't say they launched bad the first and only day I used them, no worse or better than the bilsteins or lakewoods
