Default What tire/slick for 500whp M6 Fbody.

I am in need of help choosing the best slick/tire for drag racing on my car.
(I currently have Hoosiers 26" tall D06 compound)

I have a 2002 Camaro Z28, making a hair over 500rwhp. 3.73 gears (12 bolt trutrac, 6 speed. Monster clutch (6puck). I am about3600lbs race weight (with me in the car).

I know my suspension is a limiting factor for me. I have strano springs, koni SA all the way around. When I drag race I have my swaybar disconnected.

my front shocks (Konis) are set at 2.5 out of 7 (7 being the stiffest)
and rear shocks are at 1 turn out of 2 1/2 total turns (2 1/2 being stiffest)

for tires I have; Hoosier D06 slicks 26" tall x 10" wide x 15"rim. and the skinnys are 4.5" x 26" tall.

When I drag race:
I have 14-15psi in my rear slicks
40 psi - 45psi in my front skinnys.

I find that doing a medium length burnout in 2nd gear until I feel the tires grab is my best bet and I launch at 5,000rpm and dump the clutch. This has been the most consistent way for me to get high 1.5 and low 1.6 60's.... If I launch even a little higher, say 5200rpm or more, I spin... 4800 rpm or lower, I bog... my car has a very specific, fine point for it to launch "properly" and even then I don't get the best launches because my car just wants to bog, then quickly darts forward and takes off..

in the 1/8 mile I have ran a best of 7.01 @ 101mph and over the past couple years I have made at least 5 passes in the 7.0 range @ 100-101mph.. (So I know the car can easily run 10's)

The best 1/4 mile time I have ran is 11.12 @ 126.27mph... that is with a 1.65 60' and 7.19 1/8 @ 99mph... and a 1.65 60'....

(On average I run high 1.6/low 1.7 60's)

I know track prep makes a huge difference, but I need to hit 10's already. I am sick of having bad 60' times at the track.

what slick/tire do you M6 guys run and are cutting good 60's? (I know suspension is limiting me, but is there any tire you all would recommend that will help me cut better 60's?) lets hear your opinions / tire combos.

At that power level my 26's stopped working. I got a pair of the Hoosier 28x10.5 slicks and never had a problem again. Even later with 600hp I was cutting 1.40 60fts w the 6 speed. Full suspension car and 6,200rpm launch.

Thanks guys. After I made this thread, I did a search and found out that most of the guys are going with Hoosier 28x10.5 wide the c07 (stiffer sidewall).

I am probably gonna go with these in the next 3-6 months when I plan on racing again.

How much mph should I expect to lose?
How do ya'll do your burnouts with this slick?

28x10.5 stiff walls and 4.10s or 4.30's. And like you stated, your front suspension is not a good drag one, strange or qa1s with 275 or 300# springs would help get ya some more weight transfer

I also do mine in 2nd gear. But I feel maybe I burn out anywhere from 5-10 seconds. (rarely as long as 10 seconds). So maybe Im on it a bit too long.

Definitely agree with you that QA1s will help me with weight transfer....

But My car is set up to be a road race car/ to handle well on the street.
(I rarely drive it anymore anyways) But that was the original plan.

I only loosened the front and rear shocks and take off my swaybar, put on my slicks/skinnys etc. when I drag race.

But my car is normally on Nitto Nt01s all around or NT555Rs in the rear, with stiffer shock settings and my 35mm swaybar on the front.

that is also why I have 3.73s and a trutrac.

----------------------
The more and more people share their experiences, the more I am convinced that 28 x 10.5 with a stiff sidewall is the way to go.

I really hope I can cut consistent 1.5 60's with this new tire. (with my current suspension setup)

I am glad you posted this. I have a similar suspension setup with the same goal in mind (RR/autox with occasional drag race). Would you mind elaborating on your 12bolt setup? Thats next for me and I'm not sure what would hold up at the track and still do well on a road course.

Nope. With 4:56's I ran 134-135 every pass last year with 100% stock shortblock. Oil pan has never been off.
