Question on Launching with a Converter...
BradWS6 got me all set up along the lines of tire pressure in the Nittos, nice smokey burnout and then lining up in the 'groove'. What I don't think I asked him was, do you stall your converters up at all before you launch, and if so, how much?
I've got a Vig3200 on 17" Nittos.

Re: Question on Launching with a Converter...
I usually just stall mine up enough to take the slack out of the driveline, then I just flash it. But, that's me and my lowly LT1

I would try 2000rpm and go from there. If it hooks well rolling into it, you can stab it faster or try a lower rpm.

Re: Question on Launching with a Converter...
Every car is going to differ here... Different gear, converter, powerband, etc, will have an affect on the way the car wants/needs to be launched...
Try varying the launch rpm's a bit, and find what is most comfortable to you, and what your car seems to want. How you stage/launch the car will also drastically change your reaction times, if that's a concern to you (and it should be if you do anything beside TNT sessions at the track). A higher stall on the starting line will make the vehicle itself move quicker than leaving at just off idle.
I've discovered some things recently that have changed the way I stage/launch the car quite a bit.
Anyway, the only way you'll figure out the "best" way to launch you car is to practice and experiment...

Re: Question on Launching with a Converter...
Ryan and George pretty much touched on all of it. I know will optimal traction my best 60' times come from launching my Vig 3200 right around 1,200 RPM. However, since you're on Nittos, it's going to solely depend on how much your track will hold. I, as well, would start at 1,800-2,000 RPM and go from there. If the track typically hooks pretty well, then I'd try stabbing it to see if the track will hold the launch. If it does, then I'd take the launch RPM 200 RPM lower each time to see what will net the best 60' and ET for your setup. If it doesn't hold, then you can try rolling into it and even stalling it a little higher. It's going to be a trial-and-error process.

Re: Question on Launching with a Converter...
George brings up some excellent points. First experiment ... the combination of converter, tires, car specific power band and the track will all dictate which RPM and how to hit it that will work best.
Second is reaction time, getting the car going and how you manage the lites. For me trying to load up anything above 2000 is just to much for me to try and manage. Watching the tach and at the same time mentally prepping myself for the tree impacts my RT by about .1, if I try to load up over 2000 rpm ... especially if I'm in the left lane. Doesn't do any good to run a sweet ET, if you lost the race at the lite.
Good Luck

Re: Question on Launching with a Converter...
for my vig3200, i got my best 60's from just loading up the drivetrain like others have said, so it's right above idle. then just hammer it and with the e.t. streets, i've never had a prob with hooking, well except for when i'm on the juice.

Re: Question on Launching with a Converter...
nittos at 20-22psi i would hit it from 1200 rpms and hook with 1.62's-1.64's on a 3600vig and 3.23's
but like others said it will depends on track... ive cut 1.9's on crappy tracks and 1.6's on prepped tracks...
but on a well prepped track nittos will hold just like et streets

Re: Question on Launching with a Converter...
I have the same stuff + headers.
Best launch for me was barely over 1000rpms.
With nittos I don't floor it or anything...just give it enough to get it moving and floor it about 15ft out.
I 60ft 1.65-1.70 like that on 16inch nittos. Once I even got a 1.82 on my street tires.
You could also do the Jim driver mod, the 150lb body is worth a couple tenths.

Re: Question on Launching with a Converter...
I'm new with converters do you just push the brake pedal all the way in and step on the gas pedal to stall it up? I have a 3000 stall converter, does that mean I can stall it up to 3000 rpms and then dump the brake pedal to launch?
