Default Toyo RA-1 tire, has anyone tried them?

I posted this in another thread but thought it deserved it's own thread so it doesn't get missed. Has anyone tried these tires?

http://www.toyo.com/tires/tire_lines/high_perf/ra1.html

Supposedly they use the same rubber compound as the Nitto drag radial, but with a bit more tread depth to them. They are marketed as an autocross tire, but they look to be a nice street/strip type of tire for a mildly done car. I'm probably going to try these out on my Formula next spring, I especially like the fact that they come in a 255-50-16 size, unlike the Nitto.

Treadwear 40 (Nittos are 100)
Isn't that unusually soft even for an Auto-X
tire? It must have some drag racing potential...

There must be some auto-x guys who also do some drag racing - opinions? Sounds like it would
probably wear out faster despite having more tread than a Nitto anyway!

AutoX tires make poor dragrace tires. The sidewalls are too stiff. They make good street tires, but wear quickly.

I just looked at that site. Those are some FUNNY *** looking AutoX tires. No one is racing on them that I know. I doubt that they are competitive. Read the part about STEEL SIDEWALLS!!!

Nitto's are a good AutoX/Drag tire. I placed 3rd in the LA region (tentative) with them.

You may also look into Yokohama A032R's, excellent all-round racing tire, and they look brutal. I got 9000 miles off a set on the front.

I've heard the A032Rs are VERY noisy on the street though.

I've recently heard that some guy ran a 9 second ET with these Toyos on his car so I'm beginning to believe they'll work pretty well for a drag racing situation. I know they won't be as sticky as a BFG DR, but for what I want to use them for I think they might fit the bill perfectly.

Yep, they howl like a bitch in heat. Think monster mudders. But sticky like a politicians palm.

I've only run:

Eagle F1's
A032R's
BFG R1 Rains
Nitto 555R's
ET Streets

But out of all those tires, my vote goes to the Nitto's for the best combination of handling, hooking, and life.
