LS6 powered rear engine dragster build thread 1 Attachment(s) Last winter I purchased a 207", SBC powered, rear engine dragster that had been sitting for a few years (last certified in 2005). After doing some clean up and updating on the SBC I decided on putting a very low mileage LS6 in it that I had sitting around (2,200 miles). So here are the basic details on the car: -207" hard tail chassis -Powerglide transmission -4.88 rear gear -LS6 engine (stock bottom end) Here is a picture of the car when I bought it |
3 Attachment(s) First order of business was to remove the big, bulky cage that was on it and replace it with one that was a smoother, cleaner profile. |
2 Attachment(s) Then we took the mock up block and heads and set it in the chassis so that we can figure out what we need for a motor plate |
4 Attachment(s) Started ordering some parts for the engine including: -Magnuson's "hotrod" TVS2300 kit -Nitrous Outlet 90mm plate kit -Cog pulley's from Superchargers Online -Comp Cams custom grind camshaft -Dual valve spring kit from ADM Performance -243 heads CNC'd by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering |
2 Attachment(s) Also received: -Dynatech stainless header kit -TCI transbrake kit |
I just dropped the body off to have the vinyl wrap done on 12/8 and we also plan on finishing the chassis work over Christmas break so that we can send the chassis off to paint the first of the year. More pics coming! |
Nice, what do you predict it to run? Do you plan to do 1/4 or 1/8 racing with it? |

Built engine? It's a stock bottom end. Cool enough for me! Can't wait to see more progress OP! :chug: |
2 Attachment(s) Just finished up putting the top end back together. Now it is time to start mocking up the blower! |
Checking in. I've always wondered what a LS would do in a dedicated drag chassis. |
Found you a short old school dragster, cool. Shouldn't be too hard to get some good times with it. It doesn't weigh much. |
Gunna be cool. I have a build thread in forced induction on my ls2 turbocharged dragster. I got hosed on a 245" 4 link that needs back and front halved. I put it to the side and built a chassis jig and am in the process of building a new 272" slip joint chassis. Btw mine is not a stock short block but it has a new stock nod iron crank in it and I plan on going mid 6s with it. Cool that you got on LSX tv too. |

I am trying like heck to have it done by summer. I have been accumulating parts for my old car for 4 years. I am ready to have it on the track. I am self employed, extremely busy, family man, and building our 65 el camino for my dad to drive as well. Needless to say I don't have a lot of time or money. I would like to beat the guy that built my old car. That set me back a good $12,000. I will eventually redo that chassis and put it up for sale, but that doesn't help me now. What did your wrap cost? I plan on making a mold to make one piece bodies for long cars. Nobody makes a body for cars over 245". If I can pull it off, I will start building chassis and bodies for sale. |
