Good work!
Question - It says no solid cams. Does this eliminate anyone running a stock '69 Z-28? Not that I have one (I wish!) but just curious. I'd love to see one show up, but I thought the DZ302 motor was solid.

Big block header primary diameter 1-3/4 inches maximum.
Gen-I and Gen-II header primary diameter 1-5/8 inches maximum.
Gen-II headers must retain all emissions fittings.
Gen-III must retain unmodified OEM production exhaust manifolds

so does that mean us LS1 cars can't have headers in this class? but LT1 cars can?

putting the stock manifolds would help a little. then just add the spare (full of lead).

Why no headers? Why not have a weight penalty for LS1 cars?
That way you dont have to rip your nice headers out to be competitive in the class

Because the LS1's make so much power with the stock manifolds. This is supposed to be an entry level bolt-on class. The reason the other engines are given so many concessions is to (hopefully) allow them to run with the LS1's. Will it work? I don't know, but I sure hope so.

hmmm
But a header is a bolt on isnt it? You want to have it so that the competitors show up to the track. I know if I was an LS1 bolt on guy I wouldn't bother going if I had to remove the headers that took me 5-9 hours to install. See what I mean? It would be better to have them run with a 150 pound weight over the class minimum via ballast or whatever than force the hardcore bolt on guys from showing up cause they have to take their headers off.

Re: NFRA: 2002 Street Stock Rules are posted
I do see your point. This seems like a reasonable position, but are people then going to say "I'm not going to run my car at 3700 (or whatever) pounds." Another thing is the number of cars in circulation with stock manifolds v. those with headers.
Further discussion on actual rules is going to have to happen over at www.NFRAracing.com.

And thus the complication of running LS1s against earlier engines.
You're both right. Who wants to swap back to stock manifolds? But...who wants to add a buncha weight to their car?
If I had to pick between the two I'd rather add the weight.

Ideally, you would run the LT1 guys in their own class and the LS1 guys in theres.
Then you could have the winners of each class race off for bragging rights for each respective class.

Re: NFRA: 2002 Street Stock Rules are posted
I question the convertor rule for S/S. On the fastest lists the fastest bolt-on M6 car is .498 slower than the fastes bolt-on A4 car. I understand that there is a weight difference but 2 identical cars, one m6 and one A4. Won't the A4 have a distinct advantage if it has a really high (ex. 4400) stall? Maybe I'm wrong, could someone explain it if I am? I always thought that an A4/high stall car with the same mods as me would smoke me at the track. Please set me straight if I am wrong.
