Bfg sport comp 2's hook ?
 

these are my new dd street tires. 275/40/17 ... would they hook at all better than lowest quality available sumitomos i went with last time ? i have read they are very sticky & actually hook decent. my power level is stock. any further confirmation if they even hook remotely better than the sumis? just asking in case one day within the next 2 months or so i wanna just drive to the strip with my dd 17" ws6 wheels w/these tires on them.

I am in for info also. I have a customer with the older big gforce 275-40-18 on a fourth gen with heads and cam and those tires are awesome on the street. Haven't had it on the track yet. I have another customer that I am building a similar car for and he wants the 275-40-17 sport comp 2s

well i'll let all know how they hook on the street from a stop once i get out and do a few street launches later. remember they are still brand new though & the ones on my acura tl gripped way better around corners after around 300 miles (not enough tq in the TL to break loose ANY tire from a dead stop lol so that car didn't really give an idea).

Per Tire Rack the Comp 2's should hook better dry than the comparable Sumi's. And same comment for the next grade up. I have a 1 yr old set of Comp 2's on my stock '99 SS M6 and I've had no issue with dry traction. It's a mid-level summer performance tire so I don't expect miracles either. Noise levels are quite acceptable.

not an apples to apples comparison, but I have the same size sport comps on my 95 firehawk and comp 2's on my 98 ss. The comp 2's seem way better. The compound is softer and also extends up the sidewall, vs the original comps block style tread. I like both, but the 2's are definitely stickier. I've heard some reviews complaining about road noise, but I dont have any with either tire.

Before the comp 2's I had comp ta's on my ss and there is no contest that the comp 2's are way better. I think they are pretty comparable to the old kdw tires, I have them on my 94 and they are still great after prolly 8 years

25thhawk good to know my friend ... i had them mounted on the front (rears have 1 month new sumis & fronts were literally toast, but tire shop wanted $15 more to swap rears to front - i dont think so lol) haven't gotten around to swapping them to the back yet --- going to asap today or tomorrow.

holy crapola !!!!! ok remember i am at basically stock power - lid, ftra, potz tb, borla xr1 in place of stock muffler. ... from sumis to these the difference is night and day. at 25 psi i could continuously back to back dead hook at 1000-1200 brake torque. at 1500 out of 4 launches 1 dead hooked, 1 maybe 2 tenths spin before hooking and 2 spun for like half a second, then did one more 5th try at 1500 with another dead hook! so 1500 can be done but could be hit & miss. stomping from idle hooked decent - 100% better than sumis (sumis CANT hook stomping from idle) - at a slight ease into throttle, i.e not a full fast as you can stomp, they hook excellent. this was at about 60 degrees outside. ... on my sumis i could get nothing at all but spin from a 1000 brake torque. will be heading to track next or the following wednesday & will keep all updated.

Great to hear. I was impressed with them. Its tough comparing between the different cars sometimes tho. They definitely feel sticky, it will be interesting to see how long they last

I think I'm going to pick up some BFG's this week. Was also looking at Cooper RS3-S but found out they're made in china. Conti DWs have those crazy wide grooves and many people reporting balance issues.

Brand new tires are as soft as they will ever be. Over the years, they will gradually harden up to the level of your old tires, and traction will be similar. So enjoy them while they're new!

...well, when 2 brands of new tires hook with a night & day difference (sumi's are only about a month older & even when brand new hooked up uhmmm... well they didn't!!!), & other's have posted in various car forums similar results as mine, i would say the bfg's grip/how well they hook will last for a decent amount of time. imo for a street tire it's simply better than most as far as how well it's going to hook over it's entire life.

Mine are either 2 or 3 years old. Still soft and sticky

Mine are about 6 months old and seem to be pretty soft and sticky still. Definitely ride better than the run flats i had before too. And they are not wearing too quickly either. Its no drag radial or slick but it works pretty good for my dd trans am.
