Default Would a gear change give me more mph or less? 3.46 to 4.10's

I have this test road that I take the car on and use my Tazzo as the track is 4 hours away from me.

When I just put the TR236 in I was between 12.0x-12.4x @ 117-120mph on my tazzo with 1.99-2.1 60's with the stock 3.46's. Put the ford 8.8 in it with 4.10's and have only been able to get 115mph traps on the same road and same 60's (Spinning old Nitto's real bad).

Would a the gear change reduce my mph?

no it shouldn't.

if you are spinning really really bad it could hurt mph though. I'm sure Colonel will chime in on this one..he is alot better at explaining the theory behind too much spinning hurting MPH than I am.

This all depends on a lot of factors more then just changing the gear.. here is my expample.

My old race car went 8.89@151.00 with a 4.56 gear on the motor.
With a 4.11 gear the car went 8.96@150 on the motor. we changed the gear to get the RPM's down for running n2o.

If I had to make a guess, i would say the 4.11 gear's will slow you down if you can not hook the increased tq that the gear creates. A 3.73 might be a better mix for you if you end up having traction problems.

It is from a Tazzo, which is similar to a G-tech. At the track it has always been .1 / 1.5mph fast but dead on in the 60 compared to the track.. It has been tested in 3 different cars, different days same results.

obviously something is acting funny. id be willing to start with those things. try and get a reading without spinning the tires.

I need to play with the 28x11.5 ET streets I have now. I had too much pressure in them by the looks of the burn outs last night. I was only cutting 1.95 60's on my favorite road.

i think you should spend 10 bucks or so at the nearest track on a test and tune night and learn how to launch and play with tire pressures with a real timer system. i did.

Gear will net you more mph Lil, you probably spun too much out then.

And GTech is usually 3-5mph over reality.

If only the track wasn't 4 hours away and It was $10 instead of $45

Telling you, the Tazzo is suprisingly consistantl off, if that makes sense.. Always off by the same amount in the 60, 1/4 (ET / MPH)

jezz man, 4 hrs. that really sucks. and $45 is like theft.

well the tazzo sound better than the g-tech if it works as good as you say. guess the key is to find out how much it is consistanly off to calculate reall times. but im sure you realize you will never cut nearly as good of a 60' on the street as you could on a well preped track. i tried launching on slicks in front my house and it dont hook at all.

I'm with you there. I know it will never hook as hard on the street. Need to get the rear put back together again. Once that is done, I am planing on going to the track again. For $100 I can race from 11am to 10pm. I'm sure I can learn a lot about the new setup during that time.

100 bucks, jezz, that would pay for 2 trips to the track including diesel and race fuel. and 11am to 10pm is plenty of time to learn a car unless you have alot of adjustments to make. i can usually learn my new setups fairly well in 5-7 runs. and with that amount of time you should get in 15 passes if you wanted to.
good luck, and keep us posted
also leave that tazzo device in the car and see just how inaccurate or accurate it is. im currious.

The Tazzo has been to the track in 3 different cars, different days and multiple passes in each car. It was consistantly dead on in the 60, 1/4 ET was .1 fast (12.3 really 12.4) MPH was always 1.5 fast (120 really 118.5).. It also allows you to calibrate it but I left the directions at home so I did not get a chance to do that.
