Default Stall converter...what's everyone running?

I've been using a Circle D 3e for the past few years and man it hits hard and holds rpm at the end of the track. Just wondering if maybe it's too loose and I'm loosing mph? What's everyone running and how's it compare?

Call a few Mfg's and ask what they recommend. Get something built for YOUR combo....not something off the shelf.

You'll be a lot happier

Ok, got all the paperwork turned into several of the converter companies. Might be interesting to see what they recommend.

I know mine was rpming high for the mph, but I was getting rpm flare on the shifts to 3rd (drive) with my th350.....clutches were shot.

5000 stall, but a nitrous converter so its a little tight on NA, but fells good at the same time....hardly tell its there until you stand on it

This converter currently is so loose that I feel that I am loosing some power due to being out of rpm range at the end of the track and the converter and only drops 200-400 rpm between shifts.

Send it back to Chris and have him tighten it up. you get 1 free restall with it. I have been 1.29 with my circle-d

Yep been talking with Chris, sent log files and he said he would tighten it up. Great customer service as usual.

Yeah Chris said said something about doing that. Not sure I want to try that quite yet. I've got some taller tires and will get some data from the track and see.

Change one thing at a time. Making several changes at once, will make it hard to pinpoint what actually worked.

If the converter is close, like really close, doing a fluid change can swing the stall +/- a couple hundred RPM's in one direction or the other (looser or tighter)

I am a few hundred off on the 1-2 but 500-600 on the 2-3. I changed the fluid, same type and brand, its been a few years since changed. Track log data will show if anything changed.

Been thru a few "off the shelf" converters.....last one was a 4500 that you could tell the car had a big stall due to the revs from a red light....Now a 5000 build for my car, what a change.
Hardly tell is has a big stall, drives like a 2000 stall until you stand on it, nice 60's, MPH up, ET down.
Just feels good.

It seems that way with any quality converter you purchase you get what you pay for when it comes to these

my 8" fti is Like this. You feel it taking off from a light but feels more like a 3000 stall. Cruising is 2900 at 72 mph with 4.10 gears and 26" tires behind a non lock up 200 4r transmission.
stand on it and it flashes to 5300. Trans brake takes it to 6150. $1000 well spent

Nah, I still dont get it. I have two (one on the way) Circle D converters. For my yukon i told him the info, what my intentions were, and he shipped me a converter the next day. BECAUSE its a super simple and common combo yes he probably had it on the shelf. My turbo converter we discussed a couple options and the one i/we selected wont be set to be finished till late this week. Are you realistically saying i have one "shelf" converter and one not? Are you saying had he happen to have that specific converter already made, i now own two "shelf" converter? I want whatever you're smoking. I mean dude if you're talking about some TCI bullshit that's fine, but mostly you see we dont discuss bullshit converters like that here, every good converter company will ask combo details before they decide which converter internals you need. None really are "shelf" converters.

I think what he means is dont go on a sight and pick a converter. Talk to them for recommendation.
My fti was chosen for me but shipped same day. Probably had it ready to go or built that day. Who knows, bigger shops can ship out faster.

I agree, referring to just picking one and having it shipped. I've had 3 variations of circle d and they were all different setups and were all ordered (specd) when called and given the information about the car and setup and took time to get. Current setup just needs some tweaking and I think it'll be fine.
