How to get under 3000-2900 lbs
#121
Well i have a ht car also. As i stated last time on the scales it weighed 2993. But it still has almost everything you took out lol. I think i did have the jack/spare out of it and the air bags are gone. I can't rememberif the front bar was on it.
. All seats/abs/sound deadening/seat belts/full monsoon stereo/full size battery/full hvacstuff was all there. I think it had about 1/4 tank of gas to.
Your car should be way lighter than mine unless you have alot of safety equipment in it.

I'm removing this ls1 that's in it and using another ls1 I have if the converter and air filter don't drop the et by at least 1/2 second.

Oh i agree if it ran 11.7 cammed at that weight. I helped a bud with his ls1 car some and drove it to a 11.9@116 and we didn't even have headers on it. Car was 3200~ and only had 3.73 gears with a m6 and a 10bolt. Still had everything in it sans jack/spare/front bar to.
I still say get your bolt on game working before you cam them. The engines are plenty powerful enough to run well into the 11s pretty easily.

.. I've also thought about the valve springs. How good are the btr springs for longevity. It feels off at high rpm compared to the ls1's I've had. And if the car sits at around 3000lbs which it must be, that makes it even worse. I'm 165lbs.
Definitely not tune related, I've tuned it to the limit, there's no torque management, knock sensing, anything left to slow it down. LM1 wideband shows high 12 afr's rock solid through an entire run. And I've recently checked all the plug wires for resistance. It runs clean..but it think it just doesn't pull hard enough between 5000-7000 like it should. I tried shifting at around and under 7k.. it was slower. My best runs of 11.7's was shifting around 7300rpm.

It's working much harder than it should for sure. A t400/3.73/28" tire isn't great for it either.....especially turning 7300.
Idk....probably missing something simple dumb. At that weight a well running cammed ls1 should easily run 10s imo if all was well.
Btw....I've see guys tune and tune. Doesn't always make it right. The ls1 car i mentioned above was on the stock power tuning perameters. Only thing adjusted in that tune was gear/turned off egr and air pump.
Maybe start a new thread with your entire combo and get some dyno time.

I tuned this car no different to my other ls1 cars I've owned previously which were quicker for what they had. As for the rear gear I had 26" tall hoosiers on the car before getting the current 28s, and when I calculated it that's a big change in gear ratio. I can feel the 28's have slowed it down but not by a lot, it feels a bit slower more so wot on a roll more than when doing a full run. Again Ive tested it with my gtech both ways and the best et I can get is on the 28's because it hooks so well. MPH wasn't that different.
I'm thinking the converter probably isn't great, the sprag is either slipping or the converter was just no good to begin with. It's a cheap 10.5" converter which I think musn't be all that efficient to be flashing to what it is, 3900rpm, in such a light and low HP car.
I'll get it sorted out eventually. I'll start with getting a free flowing (not paper) ls1 size air filter on the car.

One last thread hijack. Simple dumb, yep Today i just figured out at least one reason why my car isn't as quick as it should be. I removed my air intake to clean the filter and also look at cutting out the radiator support to run the 98+ ls1 lid on it, which is needed on 93-97 cars as the hood isn't tall enough for the 98-02 filter setup.
Now here's the simple dumb part. I had wrapped a heap of electrical tape around the MAF sensor where the rubber bellow for the air intake tightens down onto it, to increase the MAF's diameter by 1/4" as the bellow i had at the time was too big diameter. Somehow even though i had the clamp very tight (must have been the heat) a very big chunk of electrical tape had dislodged and gone into the MAF, and was blocking half of the maf sensor and intake tract from the front side, and it was stuck there because all of the tape was wrapped one piece and the rest of it couldn't get out. Luckily it couldn't pass through the MAF and get drawn into the TB and wreak more havoc. I'm never doing that again. Today was a WTF moment for sure. While there I washed the filter and cleaned the maf with electrical contact cleaner which I have always done in the past and it works.
Now I can't wait to drive and gtech the car again which will have to be next week as I can't over the weekend. Just starting it and revving it I can hear the difference. It's much crisper sounding. I knew something was off and I already found something. I still have an air filter that is 2/3 the size of the 98-02 ls1 filters.. I actually measured both of them today and worked out the surface area difference. But it's a high flow K&N style filter so how much it still restricts on a cam only ls1, If at all, I will find out. I've figured out how to cut a new opening in my over radiator intake and modify it to take an extra K&N filter right in front of the tb/maf path, and then the surface area of both filters combined will be roughly the same size as the ls1 air filters, even a bit bigger. When I sort the car out and eventually get it to the drag strip, i'll remove both the filters and run it with the over radiator air intake in place so the engine can't pull hot air.
This is what my air intake is and as you can see the filter itself is smaller than ls1 filters.. but the rest of the intake is fairly large and free flowing. I'm going to cut a rectangle hole out where it says 'ramjet' across the entire front, and attach another filter.
A side view of it so you can see it's fairly large and free flowing, the opening to the MAF is actually even bigger than the aftermarket ls1 lids. So if I get more filter area onto it I think it'll flow plenty to not restrict a cam only ls1.
This next pic is my actual car from back when I was doing the ls1 conversion for a better idea on the size of the intake. Mine doesn't say ramjet but otherwise it's an identical copy, from china (where else).
I've also moved the transmission cooler since then to the front corner of the bumper so there's no heat in front of the intake.
BACK TO WEIGHT REDUCTION... sorry for the thread hijack.

I wrote it down somewhere and can't seem to find it. I did find the shipping receipt and it says 284lbs but that is with the big *** pallet it was bolted to. That was complete with drag brakes, rotors, and all brackets. It has 40 solid spline axles in it too. So I'm not sure.

I'm going to add another filter to my over radiator intake for now and see if it improves. I'm also hoping what I found yesterday was slowing my car at least 3 tenths. I'll find out next week.

This is how it came from strange with a pretty thick box covering it.

Yeah I drive it on the street. If I do repeated runs on a warm day the trans temp climbs to 220 which is too high. Usually it keeps at around 180-185. I've bought a fan for the cooler that I haven't mounted yet. If that's not enough i'll add another cooler with fan.

Not a roller!! Man was it fun to get on the trailer without a fork lift, by myself, in 100 degree heat!!
Now that you say that, it probably was between 1000-1100 pounds based on 6 cents a pound. I got like $60 and some change for it. It was a T-top car but I kept the glass, and 8 point cage now that I think about it.
To long ago (even though it was only 2016), I should've kept the ticket!!
