Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Not quite 10's, but had to say that Tony Ive been waiting to go the track on the new motor setup for the project SS almost 2 weeks now. Its been raining like crazy down here, every day Well it rained today as usual, but cleared up about 2:30. Decided at the last minute 5:00, to go. Drove the car to "Skate Capital" in FULL street trim, and only mod at the track was open cutout and front skinnes. Pulled up at the track at 6:28 and made the first pass at 7:08 (no cool down time). Weather conditions sucked 81.6 degress 81 % humdity 29.89 baro--- for a DA of 2374 All passes were on DRAG RADIALS with weight at 3470, full exhaust, front HAL shocks at 5 clicks. Wanted to get a rough idea of how it runs like its driven everyday First pass (cut out closed) 60' 1.822 (spun like crazy) 1\8 7.556 @ 96.64 330' 5.007 1000' 9.732 1\4 11.55 @ 123.89 Best pass, last round of eliminations. Opened the cutout. 60' 1.808 (still spun) 1\8 7.446 @ 97.73 330' 4.948 1000' 9.618 1\4 11.425 @ 125.62 --still ran 125+ even hitting the 7400 rev limiter right at the traps.(4.30 gears)and spinning when hitting 2nd gear. Pulls like an animal on the big end Ran a 11.425 on a 11.42 dial in and came home with a fist place trophy in street comp Also this was preliminary tuning, no dyno #'s and only 220 miles on the motor More track times with slicks and race setup soon, good 10 sec passes in the summer here I come New mods: -FMS 346 forged bottom end -FMS stage 2 LS6 heads (2.055"\1.60") -FMS street solid roller (233\233 .629\.629 112) |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Very nice for a first trip out! 10s will be easy when you bolt some slicks on. Nice job! Jason |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS I totally agree with Jason. Great job driving. Congrats on the win. Good Luck to ya. |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Amazing first passes........... And some people say a Solid roller has no advantage...Yea and I have some swamp land I can sell ya too JS |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Nice driving. 11.425 on an 11.42 dial is sweet. Unreal mph. 80% humididty the darn things just about burning water. Hook it up and look out. Congrats. Bruce |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Extremely good times on drag radials. Little more tweaking, times would come down a little more on them radials. I guess 10 's are over the horizon with the slicks and fine tunning. Great times and ET's. Cheers |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Congrats on the trophy Allan! Well done! Gordon |

Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS LOL Allan! 11.4s are not "almost" 10s, you had me worried there bud. I ran enough 11.0X passes to make me sick and realize that 10s were difficult haha. Nice results! Your solid roller setups are very impressive, but I think your heads deserve more credit. Tony |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Nice |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Yes Tony, I wanted to see if I could get your attention,But you are the man to beat I had a hard time getting it to hook at SCD, couldn't leave much over 3500 RPM's.The motor\car is setup to leave at 6000+ RPM. Will be going to NPR soon and make a couple more drag radial and slick passes in race mode What is your best ET\MPH on drag radial's ? I should be finished with a customer's solid roller 432 in a couple of weeks for a 2001 Trans-Am. Can't wait till I go to the track in that thing |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS I haven't run the 434ci on radials yet, but I just bought some new Nittos on wednesday I ran 11.33 @ 124 mph on Nittos with my old 382ci setup, pushing 3595 lbs at the time, weather was in the mid 70s. I think I can run some 10.8s on radials with this setup, because I had a few spinning launches on slicks (mid 1.7X 60' range) and still ran 10.8s when I went last time. I used to cut low 1.7X short times on nittos, should still be able to do so. Good luck at the track tomorrow! Take my temporary record down and motivate me to put the Cannibal on a diet Tony |

Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS congrats on the win and first outing on the new setup. I didn't know anyone ran at State crapital anymore. |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Thanks Jason, Coach, it sure felt nice to be racing again. JS: Thanks and I just love solid rollers and with as streetable as mine is thats the way Im going to stay. The mid-range torque and upper rpm pull is awesome. Bruce: Thanks and it WAS nasty last night Kent: Thanks and should know about the 10's maybe as soon as next week Gordon ahhh Gordon I have a new trophy to go with the Goldies flag 98TAauto: 275/40-17 Nitto's on stock SS rims at 20psi |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS good deal Alan ... I think Tony is right, the heads deserve more credit than you give them, your reworked heads on my car took me from low 12's to mid 11's. |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Killer MPH I think I'm still the "almost 10s" king though. Damn I need to go to the track. [ July 07, 2002, 01:10 PM: Message edited by: Onyx LS1 ] |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS That is moving.. Futral Motorsports is putting out some awesome solid rollers.. Damn!!!! Those times on a 346ci with DR's are just sick.. Makes me want to re think my forced induction idea.. |
Re: Almost 10's on drag radials with first outing in Project SS Pretty good for a mild roller. I had decided on another hydraulic cam for my new setup but since I've had so much time (waiting for LS6 cores to show up) I'm considering a solid cam. Get some slicks on there so I can see what the MPH really is. |
