Default Some race results from TX SLP day!

I knew it was going to be big from all of the people I had talked to that said they were going, but when I was waiting on the side of highway 287 at 8:30 this morning just to get in the gate I KNEW it was going to be packed! It was HOT. The temp creeped up to right at 100 degrees in the afternoon. That makes for some miserable racing. I changed the rear tires, pulled the muffler off, and went to the staging lanes.

My first pass of the day was my only pass with traction. It netted me with an 11.78 @ 113.9 MPH with a 1.61 60', .501 RT. The pass felt good, and I was glad to see the car in the 11.7's in the heat. The best I had managed before that was an 11.80 last time out on July 4th. The car tipped the scales at 3,520#. I was going to make another time trial pass later on, but the lanes were WAY too long. I said screw it and dialed my car for eliminations off of my one and only time trial. The racing was free, so I wasn't too worried with precision. LOL!

It took forever and a day to get through the Camaro/Firebird class; there were a TON of cars! They finally called the slick class, so I headed for the lanes. I get up there, and it's just Lane and me! I knew it was going to be pretty small, but that was ridiculous! We ended up with a whopping 8 cars in the slick class. I saw Tony roll up in his Formula, and we compared sunburns. There were only four rounds to go, but I managed to take the win. I don't know how since I didn't hook one time in eliminations. My best 60' was a 1.69, and it only got worse as the day went on.

They were running for king of the track. These were all winners and runner-ups from all of the classes running for track champ of the day. I made it to the 1/4's, but that's as far as luck would take me. I spun so bad that the car short-shifted into 2nd. I finally nailed it past the 60' mark, and it downshifted back into 1st gear. Some bad weather rolled in, and the wind got really bad. They cut the king of the track races down to 1/8-mile for safety, and it was much appreciated. I was really fighting the car on the top-end in the finals.

All in all, it was a good day. I got to see Sean Freese in the Speedtek/Fastech Z28 make a pass with a 10.51 @ 137 MPH with a 1.7x 60' time! The track just wasn't there. I also met Mike Senia from Yank Converters. Sorry Mike, but your converter was a little too much for the track today. The best part is that I have another $2 trophy to put in my garage.

So you beat Nineball in a head to head race in the brackets? you're being far too humble.

Trevor,

Congrats on the class win.

The track sounds alot like it was on July 4th. It would seem that the Motorplex would have better track prep. It used to be one of the fastest tracks in the country. Sadly not anymore.

Good to see ya racing again.

Congrats Trevor. I knew you'd win. Even if I wouldn't have red-lighted against you, you would have won that race.

At least I can say I lost to the winner.

LMAO Joel! Tony's car burped a little fluid out, and they wouldn't even let him run. I might have been able to beat him if he had another 2.5 60' time like he did on his 1st time trial.

Coach - I totally agree about the Motorplex. I don't know why they don't prep the track more. They have the potential to be another HRP if they would put some effort into it.

Lane - With as slick as it got, I was amazed to make it through one round! Thanks for the present, though. If you don't redlight every once in a while, then you're not trying hard enough!

I didn't even get to make a pass in the eliminations. I would have won that first round since I was lined up with my buddy Dennis who had a 12.00 dial-in on a 10.50 car (no cage) and was going to go all-out against me. He got a bye run. SUCK!

I figured you were a little bitter Tony after driving all of that way to not even make a pass in eliminations! I know I would've been. I feel yer pain on the sunburn, too. Cool water was my friend this morning in the shower.

I was guessing that the D.A. was in the low-to-mid 3,000' range, so I wasn't too far off. I'm ready to see what the car will do with some cooler weather! The Southern Shootout ought to be a BLAST!

But, for stock internals n/a, I'm pretty happy.

No, I always do exactly the speed limit going to and from the track. I figure I don't need anymore attention since I have an orange car, am running skinnies to and from the track, and don't have a front license plate. They also warned us as we were leaving the track.
