Default Does the car with more MPH always win on the street?

I didn't know where to post this.
I was at the track the other day and a import walked over and told me that on the street he would win. This was due to the fact that his MPH was the same as mine but, I had a lower ET. He said that he was making up the MPH on the big end. He said, "From a roll he would kill me." Does this mean that he would win?
Not that it matters I pilled it up alittle and out ET and MPH his *** the next visit. Him with his no hood, fenders, bumpers, and interior. Me with everything (including the spare tire) and 4400 pounds.
What do you guys think.

depends on who gets traction and who can drive better. like you said, add some extra juice. if he made a comment like that more than likley he was just being a moron making a excuse for losing.

mph doesn't mean crap unless you are racing from a roll. last i heard drag racing was from a stop and it was the quickest ET that wins.

Traction wins most races. It is hard to reel someone in.

MPH wins if your boys stretch the quarter mile a bit when the other side ain't looking.

now who would do something like that

hehe.

Spoken like a true street racer not a rice roll racer.

i agree that its traction that wins races, and not just on the street. mph does help but if you cant catch traction and the other guy dead hooks, you better have alot more mph than him if you ever want to catch up, let alone pass him.
now, from a roll, traction is not an issue so thats where mph really "takes over" as the major factor in a race.
and mph is generally dictated by horsepower whereas E.T is hp&traction.

Alot of times hooking hard on et streets will lower your MPH in comparison to something like BFG drag radials, but your ET will improve. So its hard to say if the two cars are very close MPH wise.

Peace,
Josh

When I first got the Hoosiers my MPH went down alittle. Granted it was not alot, maybe 1 mph or so. So if I finish the 1/8th at 94ish. I would see more MPH out of a drag radial, maybe 95ish.
Thanks for the responses.

Who cares if you trap 110 and he traps 120. Its all about who gets there first.

its really about what you are up against in that situation each time.

if you are a big MPH car runnign against a big sixty foot car he's gonna hope his sixty foot puts him far enough out that you can't catch and you're gonna hope that your mph will run him down.

that is a little more realistic perspective/explanation i think.
