Default Help! Paging guys who have trimmed bumpers to fit 28" slicks(GeorgeC,etc)

I seem to remember GeorgeC saying that he did a bit of cutting on his car..isn't that right George?

I have my 28X10.5X15 ET Drags on the car now..and they are just barely hitting the rear of the fiberglass bumper..and only really on one side..car must be a little twisted

Someone suggested getting adjustable LCA's..but this is not an option for me since I have the BMR extreme TQ Arm with a TH400 trans..and that TQ Arm is set in place to the crossbrace that is welded into the car..so the rear is not going anywhere.

What have you guys done to cleanly trim some off the bumpers..how'd you do it, what did you use, etc. I want to make it look as little ghetto as possible

Thanks!

Just trim that plastic back until your sure it will clear with some tire growth.

The top? Roll the lip in and up.

Thats about it.

(Guess I need to take some pics of mine, huh? )

All right, I will, just remind me over the week end.

I have a 99 SS. I had my wheel wells professionally done. The entire wheel well is opened up all the way around and that hump on the inside front of the wheel well is cut out. I did this to run 28" tires or more if needed.
I have 6.5" backspacing and the 28" Hoosiers and tires rubbed in the front and rear when the tires grew. I also have a set of MT sportsman pros for the street and they rubbed on top of the wheel well on a hard launch or when I had a passinger in the car.
I'm going to move to 7.5" backspacing soon.
Good luck
Tom

I got about 1/2" clearance on each side w/my 27x11.5x15 hoosier QTP's, I did a lot of grinding, the bump stop is no longer there...

The only way to test if they rub is to do a burnout, and I don't really want to risk blowing out the tire....why do I have such little clearance running a 27" tire?

Here's a couple pics of mine...

Not something the average guy can do, but I have taught myself how to do a little paint and body work...

I tried cutting myself and I frigged it all up I more or less had to have it professionally done because I definately found out I am by NO means a body man.

HMMMM...well I guess I'm going to go for it somehow and if I totally blow it, I have enough hook ups at body shops around here to get it taken care of for a good price. I seem to have alot of clearence on top for growth because I left the stock spacers/bushings in on top of the springs with my 9" rearend and the rear of the car sits pretty high up

As for the front..I dunno..that's gonna be a close call I think..but I gotta do something about the rear for sure..

Thanks for the pics guys..

I sectioned the rear bumper for more clearance, and can probably fit a 29.5 or 30" tire in there now... I still have the factory edge behind the tire, since I removed some of the bumper and patched it back together.

I'll try to take a picture to post when I get home from work today.
