How do I get crash bars out?!?
I felt like playing with the car today so I started to pull my passager side crash bar (inside the door). I had the pass side seat out anyway so no need for the bar. I took the door insert off (it's 10# by itself, tempting to leave it off and cover the door with 2-tone felt), and I can see the bar inside the door. The problem is you have no room between the door skin and the bolt heads you need to remove.
I'm thinking about welding a 15mm socket to a bar and using that. Any ideas?

I don't think there's anyway to get at the bolts w/o removing the outer doorskin. I just used a small cut-off wheel and chopped them off pretty close to where they actually bolt on, if that makes sense. After you get the whole door bar cut loose, you will have to cut it into 2-3 pieces to get it out of the door.

Terry,
George C has the right idea...grind them off cut 2" hole in door jam with holesaw and slid out bar..That is what we did.. plugg hole with rubber stopper or leave it as is...

Re: How do I get crash bars out?!?
i actually used a 1/4 socket it was a pain to get on the bolts but i did get them out. also i put a metal plate in behind the bar once i had both ends loose and i cut it in half in 2 different places and just pulled it out through the small opening on the bottom of the door. it was time consuming and i was anticipating cutting a hole in the damn door and pulling the bars out but i didnt want to ghetto the door.

Re: How do I get crash bars out?!?
Terry,
You have to get the front bolts out, the easiest ones I think and atleast loosen the two on the other end to slide the bar out. I used a wrench and I think a short socket. It may have been a custom socket I fixed with the grinder to shorten. I was frustrated many, many a times before I got it out.
You only have to cut the bar once. Just try to do it as close to the middle as you can, it'll come out then with the right angle. You don't have to cut up your door skin or anything else.

Re: How do I get crash bars out?!?
i did the same thing, ended up grinding a socket down to get the rear(or was it front?) bolt(s), and the bigger bolt i got with a wrench. then cut the bar in 2 peices and got it out. major PITA.
