What's going on with these times Went to track last night with my new mods. I was not to impressed to say the least. 91*F 41% Humidity 64*F Dew Point Barometric Pressure 29.87 and my best time was only 13.45 @ 105.3 last year before any mods: 73*F 20% humidity 30*F Dew Point Barometric Pressure 29.95 and my best was 13.36 @ 105.5 Does this sound right  Anyways, i suspect the weather was most of the problem, but when I made my 1 - 2 shift my rpms would only drop to 5000. I looked up the gear / speed tables and I should only be doing 42 MPH in 1st and that would equal 4000 rpms in 2nd. I'm running on BFG KDW. I didn't think they were spinning in second but I could be wrong. What do you think of the times with reference to the weather? And what about the 1-2 shift issue? |
details please. what all did you change from last year, i assume this is an A4 if you are talking about 1-2 shifts in tables. how did the sixty foots compare? can't really say on the weather without knowing the changes and sixty foots, please put up some information. |
Need more info brother! Coach |

This is an M6 car, I was comparing the rpms to speed in each gear that I have on an excel file. The lower time are from last year with no mods and the slower times are from the mods listed on my sig. Here's the complete breakdown, keep in mind the weather conditions. May 13, 03 no mods RT .183 60' 2.087 330 5.726 1/8 8.692 MPH 82.78 1000 11.224 1/4 13.360 MPH 105.43 New times with mods on my sig RT -.001 oops 60' 2.015 330 5.704 1/8 8.720 MPH 82.50 1000' 11.297 1/4 13.449 MPH 105.30 I'm a little embarrised about these times due to the money I spent on mods and the fact that I don't know if I need a better clutch now. Let me know what you think Thanks again! |
Well the weather is a factor from 70* to 90* makes a difference. Also your 60' could be alot better if you get some sticky tires(et street, slicks,et..) and do some high rpm launches :D |
that MPH, even in heat is low IMO. have you checked for things such as KR, misfires, car running really rich, etc? |
No i have not checked for codes since the engine is stock. I do go to the track near empty and fill up a little over 1/4 tank with 100 octane unleaded. I've read that a change in the fuel level will reset the spark advance until the engine detects knock. But with 100 octane I don't think it's knocking. Keep in mind this is a 2000 and doesn't have the ls6 manifold. I've weighed the car each time at the track, this could be affecting the MPH 3685 lbs before mods 3730 lbs after mods Keep the ideas coming! I'm hoping the weather was the issue and just putting slicks on it and cutting good 60' will bring the E.T.'s down. But I'm sure with the slicks the clutch will fry. |
yep... looks like u bought a bunch or safe mods but not any speed mods... 12 bolt and suspension and nothing else... 200 more lbs and no power to power it! thats my guess! |
How was your shifting? Maybe the 2-3 shift was a little shaggy? Looks good until you hit the 1/8th. Your 60' is decent for BFG KDW's I can only get 2.19's :/ |
I just read that running higher octane fuel as you did can foul your plugs because they are running too hot. Might want to pull one and take a look and see. When my clutch was slipping I didn't see a huge loss in mph, just time. Brian |
That's only 45 lbs of Mods - Not 200. The fuel levels were relatively close. Obviously I can't tell exactly. The only thing I think I can do to check if the clutch is slipping is to buy an autotap and compare rpms to wheel speed. This will also help me check codes. 00pewterSS - where did you get that info, has anyone else heard this. I thought octane rating was the fuels ability to resist detonation. (i.e. knock) |
the heat is killing your mph, wait too compare mods when you duplicate the same conditions. |
I agree the heat may be your only issue. Yes the octane will keep detonation in check, but if your car isn't tuned to take advantage of that so, I'm not sure you will gain anything. It just came to mind because I had just read this article, no idea if it may pertain. http://installuniversity.com/install...b_8.072000.htm Brian |
Thanks for your help everyone! I'll take her back on a cooler day and see what she does. |
You will lose power with a higher octane fuel. Most people think that higher octane is more powerful but it's the oposite. Unless you are higher than stock compression or have advanced the timing quite a bit, you will go slower. The extra drivetrain drag and weather contributed as well Just my opinion |
