Bob, thanks for your concern, my friend.

I'm okay, really, I'm not upset about it at all.

Believe it or not, I do care slightly what others think about me. Especially the important people. Not that any amount of disapproval of weight reduction will ever stop me from doing it, but I like to hear other people's views. I'm not trying to take a thing away from your accomplishments. No one could ever do that. I know full well that if you take 65 cubes away from me, it would take some serious gearing and some Colonel-esque weight reduction to get me anywhere near 11.67 or 115 MPH. If not some internal engine mods. Anyway. Please don't take offense. I agree that this is all in harmless fun. I'm just wanting to see what my car would run starting from a platform equal to yours. For comparison's sake. I can't just take my raceweight to 3225 or everyone will poke fun at me, which makes me cry. J/K. It's not to prove to you or anyone anything, it's just so I won't feel initmidated by a motor with 65 less cubes. So, what will it take?

You really ought to come to Texas some time. Do you do any racing in the Midwest or Southeast during the winter/spring?

Well, its pretty much impossible to say what one car will run with xxxx mods. An LS1 certainly has a big power advantage over a DOHC (likely 30 RWHP or more in similarly-modded form), but the Cobra can take advantage of better gearing - especially when comparing 1st gear in the tranny, and overall gearing. I think it is also safe to say that weight comes out a bit easier and with less loss of the 'street' equipment that we talk about.

So it is something of a trade off. I do believe that with equal mods, an M6 LS1 has the potential to outrun a DOHC car in the 1/4 mile. Gearing helps keep my car close in ET, but the MPH shows the obvious deficiency in power. So, I really can't say what it would "take". You, 01-Z, and Larry are already ahead of me in all-out ET, so you guys need to get together yourselves and decide.

All that said...I enjoy running comparable ET's to you guys (mainly the M6 folks...hard to compete with those damn A4's). My not wanting to gut my car is a personal choice, just like someone else pulling everything out of theirs is a personal choice. No choice is better than the other - simply different.

If I decide not to run NMRA F/S next year (a distinct possibility), then I'll go out to run as quick as possible with a "bolt-on" 4.6. I think 11.4's are possible in killer air with a more optimized combo. If I do decide to run NMRA, well, the 11.67 pass might end up being my best ever. Such is life.

Did you know I'm originally from Texas? My hometown is Sherman (north of Dallas), and I've lived in Austin, Laredo, Amarillo, San Antonio, and Houston. I graduated High School in north Houston back in 1983, and spent a lot of time getting in trouble at Rankin Road, for those that know it. I fully intend to move back to Texas in 4 years when I retire from the USN - likely up near Sherman, which will always be 'home' to me. We get down there every other year or so, but being a family trip, I don't bring the Cobra. My wife puts up with my racing enough already to try and convince her that I need to make a trip to the track on our family vacation.

BTW....I don't offend easily, so don't worry about that. You can't run the Corral Forums for over 5 years without growing some pretty thick skin.

Yeah, you need longtubes. All right, well, just for personal reassurance, I'm going to try to run 11.60 @ 3500 lbs. this season. I don't really think the 275 lbs. is worth 65 cubes, but it'll be close enough for me to put my mind at ease. We just can't have a Ford guy getting out of place over here.

BTW: I've been 12.08 @ 111 (1.62) with the front swaybar on and at 3500lbs raceweight. That was in 90 degree Tampa weather on 17x315 nitto's.

Figure that's an easy 11.9 in "decent" weather
