Default could WE ls1's run with FORD with similar rules

I was just noticing that NMRA etc have huge races. If we were to use their "rules/classes" as a guide where would our ET's be? I dont think we would be even close to what some of these guys are running.

ls1 or lt1? what do you guys think?

all of this back and forth about rules/classes makes me wish for 1 set of rules and build a car for it...but WE ALL MUST AGREE ON RULES.

In the bigger classes, No way. We still have alot of R&D to go. Stangs are running 6.50's next year and There are more than 1 running 7.70's with stock style suspension. Give it time and it will get better. Old school Chevy is there with them but the lt1-ls1 have a way to go.

In some classes, an LS1 combo would probably be banned for being too fast. Those would likely include the following...

Factory Stock: unported heads/intake, stock cam, limited other mods. Record is a 5.0 that has gone 11.7's @ 3300 lbs. DOHC cars were almost banned after my bolt-on car got real close to the purpose-built 5.0's. Imagine what an LS1 could do. NMRA would likely have to mandate a 3600+ lb weight, and/or ban it.

Pure Street: N/A, limited mods, sort of a heads/cam/intake class - but certainly purpose built race. Top guys are going 10.7's at ~125 mph @ 3150 lbs. An LS1 would do quite well here, and would likely get hit with big weight penalties.

Real Street: sort of a F/S car with a power adder, can have some unported aftermarket heads and intake, but has to run a stock cam, and a limited set of power adders. DOHC cars are not allowed in Real Street as it is, so LS1's would certainly be dq'd.

The higher classes would be much tougher. Hot Street cars - N/A small blocks with pretty severe weight penalties for bigger motors - are running in the low 9's now. In fact, the quickest mod car - 5.0 DOHC - is going 9.6's.

Renegade is in the high 8's. These are "limited" power adders cars, sort of a Jr Outlaw now.

Outlaw is in the high 7's, and Pro are in the high 6's.

Could the LS1 compete? Sure - though it would likely take iron block for the faster classes. But it would require a lot of investment in money and time to bring the combinations along, as the Mustang guys have had years to develop theirs.

I would simply like to see a series. I wouldn't expect them to reach the level that has been seen by the W and 4.6DOHC cars for at least 2-3 more years though. I'm not sure I expect the LS1 block to get there at all, but I think the C5R block could help get there. I think the LS1 cars could get much closer in a hurry if they just had someone really running a serious 2900 lb turbo car. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I agree with Bob.
But any class that requires a stock cylinder head or a ported stock cylinder head the LS-1's would clean up in.
