Default Anybody ran 15x10 with 7" backspacing?

My axles are 3.5" shorter on each side than stock and I am currently running 4.25" BS on a 17" rim and it is really close to the custom inner fender we revised. I'm trying to decide whether to buy a cheap Weld Rim with 3.5" backspacing for a total of 7" with the shortened axle or if I should just spend the extra money and buy a set of Bogarts or Alumna Lights with a 4" or 4.25" BS.

Has anyone ever tried 7" BS? How far does it sit inside the fender? Any info is appreciated. The difference in wheel price could save me a few hundred bucks I need to spend elsewhere if 7" backspacing won't be a compromise I'm going to go that route but if the fitment is compromised I'd rather spend the money now than buy a second set of wheels later.

I'm running 15 x10 Welds w/7.5" backspacing with the stock length rear. Tucks very nicely with some work

Here are some pics of the 15x10s on the car before tire was mountd.

Derek,

Personally I would try to run the 15x10 w/ a 4.25" BS. This would tuck the tire in slightly more then the typical 7.5" BS cars.

I wouldn't even bother with a 3.5" (Comparison wise 7" on most cars), it would stick out too far. The 7.5" is the minimum I would do.

Part of this depends on how much room you've made with your fenderwell, and also what tire you plan to run. what are you using 10.5W's? 13.5s? 14.5s? Hoosiers? M/Ts? DOTs? Slicks? These all can have a factor, and you may even want to consider running a wider wheel if thats possible (Not sure how much room you've made in there).

Hope some of this babble helped ya some.

John,

That is somewhat correct. It would actually be 15x10/4"BS. None of the regular Welds or the Centerlines come in that spacing though. I'm stuck with either buying the more expensive Weld Motorsports Alumna Stars that are like 320 or have Bogart's made. I was just trying to save some money and avoid the wait cause I'd really like to go get some times but I guess its what I'm going to have to do.

Ok...new thought all of a sudden. Not sure if its a good idea either but what if I bought a 4.5BS which is only a 1/4" more than the wheels that are on the car now and then used a 1/4" spacer. I have the longer studs with my Moser rear and they should still pertrude through the open end lugs.

What do you guys think?

Derek,

How much room have you made w/ the Mini-Tub? What Lower Control Arms are you using? You may be able to get away with a 4.5" BS w/o the spacer.

I'm not a big fan of spacers on any of the wheels personally, but thats just my preference.

Its not really a mini-tub. We took all the ridges out of the fender and removed the whole section that was bubbled out. We then just rewelded in a new fender liner that is just outside of the spring pocket. The springs and LCA's are both in the stock location. The point was to achieve a deeper look with the wheels more than move the wheels in so there isn't a lot of additional room. I think I will order the 4.5" ones and if they won't fit without the spacer just run it.

Thanks

Thanks for the offers and advice guys. I would love to take you up on the offer Tim but 7.5BS is 11BS on my car because the axles are narrowed 3.5" on each side. I was trying to make that clear above but I guess I didn't do a really good job Anyway...I'm planning on running the Mikey Thompson ET Drag 28x10.50x15 or maybe a Hosier 28x10x15. Most of the races I want to go to require a 10" non W tire so thats what I'm going to run all the time.

Thanks again

So if stock is 15x10/7.5,
but you narrowed the rear 3.5 each side,
Wouldn't you need a 15x10/3.5 or am I missing something? Old school backspacing like for a Chevelle perhaps?
