Default Buy or don't buy a 98 Z28 vs 99-00

Just wondering, I've heard of problems with 98 ls1 engines ie low output and oiling starvation. Just wondering about anyones experience. I've found a 99 Z 6m with only 34k miles. Also found a 98, not sure of miles until tomorrow. If I need to stay away from 98, pls let me know! I had a 99 that ran 13.38 @ 107,7 stone stock hard top, pw,pl, cloth. Thanks for any help. Plan to do something this coming saturday if all goes well. 5th f-body I've bought.

Moderator, if I'm in the wrong column, go ahead and move me if possible. The guys on a similar site have said no real problems with 98's and power output is the same. The ones who replied seemed to own a 98.

I've heard the horror stories about the 98's, but I haven't had any problems with mine. There are some benefits to the 98's vs. the 99-00's too, larger fuel pump, and injectors for one. My 98 sure runs like a raped ape, even with 75,000 on her

the only down to a 98 is a heavier gas tank..its only a few pounds. get whichever is the better deal.

Cool. I like the larger injector idea for possible heads and cam later. I can get the 98 (silver, ttops, cloth 6m, chrome 60k miles) for less than 12,500, the 99 (pewter, ttops, leather, cd, 34,000 miles) for under 14,900. Still leaning towards the 99 since I'll be paying for it into retirement (I'm 31)

I thought the '98 had the biggest cam from the factory. and my '98 had a serious oiling problem, now I have a new motor with a good oiling system I was already planning on junking the old bottom end anyway when I bought the used car.

Well I bought the 99 and drove it home tonight. Sweet!!! This makes the third time I have bought a pewter 99 Z 6m. Boy those rear axles are noisy over crap pavement. Good thing it has monsoon. Thanks for all the input. It feels quite strong.
