Default Can I safely cross the traps at 6500-6600 RPM's with my stock motor?

And what would the dangers be (mechanically) of revving it that high?

TIA.

Probably float the valves.
I don't know if it would cause any pushrod damage.
My limiter is set @6400.(peak hp is 5200)
Going with a smaller tire?

Yeah, I was thinking about going with the 28" x 9" x 15", which is a little shorter than the 10.5" version.

4.30's and 28x9 ET Drags.
I tried to tell you months ago when you were
shopping for parts. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
Of coarse I'll be stepping down to a 4.10
when the nitrous goes on. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Hee hee...that's all right, Sean. I'll just stick to the 10.5" ET Drags. I know they're tall enough! I wouldn't replace these 4.56's for the world!

Well, they're fun on my 6-speed, I can only imagine on an automatic! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

Stock motor starts make funny noises at about 6650 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> With the UT-4600 in my car, it buzzed the 6600 rev limiter MANY times.

I guess I should check my pushrods.. never have <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

John, so did you ever experience any unusual noises or loss of power after tagging your 6600-RPM limiter?

I'm not changing my shift RPM at all. And I can't replace my valvesprings, or it would put me out of contention for the Bolt-On Shootout in Bowling Green on May 31. If I'm gonna replace my springs, you can bet I'm throwing a cam in there, anyway. That'll have to come later.

It's great. I can even pass people with ease in 6th gear. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

And, in general, pay attention to what is going on in this thread. I'm not touching the shift RPM. The only time my car will see revs that high will be at the end of the ¼-mile in 4th gear if I go with the shorter tire.

Allen,

You think that the 4.56's gears rock. You should try 5.13's. <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

Good luck to ya on your quest for the bolt on record. <img border="0" alt="[angel]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_angel.gif" />

I remember when I used to think going with 4.30's was insane! Funny how things change.

Thanks for the kind words, and good luck on your quest for 10's N/A.

Then all these guys would never be able to say "Never had a valve cover off."

You can shim the springs to tighten them up so the valves dont float. Would that still be considered stock internal?

Also, is it legal to retard the cam for more top end power? Or how about changin out the 2001 cam to an earlier fbody cam. The older ones have more lift and duration. Check out raughammers site section on cams. http://xs-fx.com/raughammer/

When I was bolton running a ~25.8" tire and 4.10s I had to raise my rev-limiter to 6500 to get through the traps at 116 mph. I could feel the car fall down after 6200 rpm and the dyno confirmed the fact that I lost a lot of power after 6200. With fresher valve springs, it may not have been as much of a problem.
