Default Pics of Rollbar Painted...

http://www.insomniacsoundtrack.com/car.htm

Looks pretty good I think for the first attempt <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Paint is a little wet still in parts.

Now just need to throw in the interior, new carpet, get the new steering wheel and seat mounted <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks guys <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
It wasn't that tough to paint, the worst was taping everything up LOL <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Thanks <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I used Laquer thinner to really clean the metal. (It is MUCH stronger than regular paint thinner.

Then I just taped and covered anything I didnt want overspray on and went to work.

The spraypaint I used was Tremclad "Rust" paint (For metal only) in flat black.

I almost finished the rollbar with 1 can and had to buy a second can for touchups etc. (Did a couple of coats in areas I thought were prone to more wear)

Depending on how it holds up I might add another couple of coats. I still have to pick up roll bar padding for the sidebars and main hoop for both drivers and passengers side. (I am thinking about Grey padding but am open to suggestion on what you think would look best)

After that I need to get the steering wheel (Grant) a five point harness (probably black RCI) and some Speed Inc. black (noncut) carpet.

I am also going to remove the pass side airbag and bracketry and other non-essential weight bearing items as well <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> My hope is to come in within 40 pounds of my precage/battery relocation weight...

I'll post more progress pics as I go with instructions as well.

Thanks again guys,
Chris

I think you'd like the look of the grey padding. I have black carpet, a grey Kirkey seat cover (only one seat right now), and grey padding on the rollbar. The rollbar is painted gloss black (2-stage basecoat/clearcoat by me).

The grey seat and padding look really nice, IMHO. My harness is black...

Anyone know how much it would cost to have a 6-point painted to match the car?

Cool thanks George <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
BIGBOS, it would probably be expensive to get the rollbar paint matched to the car. I am not sure though <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I did mine myself (using Sherwin Williams S7000 series basecoat/clearcoat). Masking everything off is a real PITA, and painting round tubing is a royal pain! Trying to gain good access everywhere is no joy, as you have to do some real contorting to reach some spots.

One way to do it is to just have the bars bent and lightly tacked together. Remove everything and paint the rollbar out of the car. Then put it back in, weld it up, and just touch up the spots that were welded.

I had mine base coat/clear coated painted first. Then took the paint off where it gets welded and just touch it up...

I got some padding at www.ogracing.com, and covered it with those rapz things you can get at summitracing. They are a cloth padding cover that velcro together. They look pretty good, soft too. They also prevent you from nicking your padding when you get in and out of the car.

Good idea on the wraps I never thought of those.
What color did you get? I have grey padding in the car now.
Thanks!

Was you cage custom built or did it come as a kit? Where did you get it from? I like it but it looks like those straight bars might make it tough to get into.

btw, Im not seeing any explorer rapz, just the foam padding listed on the site. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
