Default Stay in 3rd or shift to 4th?

I've searched and I can't find anything helpful. People say tagging the limiter slows you down but shifting to 4th at the end of the run slows you down. My car is trapping really slow for the hp (For one thing when I go today after work I'll be 200lbs lighter, that should help). I ran a 13.3@106.7mph 2.15 60'. I still had my car cover, gym stuff, full tank of gas, all my school books, I have SFCs... I'm sure I was almost 3900lb race weight last night. I'm going home and removing the sway bar, burning the gas down to 1/4 or less and taking out all my crap for school and the gym and removing the rear seats. Is there any chance I could get a 12.9@108-110mph today? Shift to 4th or stay in 3rd? Last night I shifted to 4th right at the end all night.

BTW with the addition of the LTs/ORY and cutout I should be in the 350s if not almost 360rwhp. And its nice and cool today so I'll be making more than those SAE corrected dyno #s for sure.

Thanks
Travis

shift into 4th.
when you hit the rev limiter you slow down
if you slow down when you hit 4th your car is broken...
by the way your not spraying your 100 shot to get those times are you?

No, my cam and spray isnt on yet, ignore the sig. Just a lid/exhaust car. The reason I was saying not to shift is I shift to 4th and barely even get the gas pedal back down and the end of the track is right there. But its a little hard to tell where the end is at our new track, im not used to the new boards.

well, with stock tires and rev limiter you should be good for 106mph, but the trap speed is an avg over the last 60ft of your run. Add about 2mph, give or take, for your actual speed as you cross the last set of sensors.

I E.T. better and trap higher when keeping it in third, BUT I am also down on power. We trap an avg of 98 mph here in Albuquerque, ~9000ft DA, in the summer. After doing some mods I was trapping 105mph and hitting the limiter JUST as I crossed the last lights. Its not going to DRASTICALLY affect your E.T. by bouncing off the limiter just before the traps.

If you can raise up the limiter another 2 or 3 hundred RPM you should be good for 108-110. There are a few calculators on the net to help you figure out what your speed would be for a given size tire and rpm.

So to answer your question, your probably going to be so close to the traps at the end of 3rd that if you bounce off the limiter or shift into 4th is not going to make a big difference. I have experimented with this exact same thing at the track and saw no major improvements, if at all, in E.T.

FWIW a friend is trapping 111 here with a 6600rpm limiter and he never gets out of third.

Hope this helps some.
