What's wrong with my car?

Last year i ran a 12.4 at 117 mph in the 1/4 with a 2.1 60'. The only thing i've changed since then is a switch to a steel driveshaft from the stock aluminum one. This year i couldnt trap higher than 113 mph until my last run of 12.4 at 114 with a 1.82 60' (on the stock tires)(1/8 mile was 8.050 @90.22). With that kind of 60'. i would have been expecting a high 11 at 117-118 mph. I've been reading on here that some people are running 12.4-12.6 at 110-112 mph with only bolt ons. how is it possible that my car with a 1.82 60' is running the same times and only slightly better traps than some bolt on f-bodies? After spending $12,000 on mods I would expect that my car would run better times and certainly much better trap speeds than a car with $3k worth of work.

did you really spend 12k on mods, what the hell you have done, i only have about 10k in mine going 10's
btw, why would you want a steel drive shaft on a stock rear and tires

i have h/c and a moser 12 bolt w/ 4.10s. dyno'd 430rwhp, 390rwtq. My stock driveshaft got all chewed up from hitting the undercarriage of my car due to bad springs so i got a steel 3.5" since i hope to be making some big power in the (distant)future when i have the money

I feel ya brother. Im strugglin with my Tune right now and I fell like I have way too much $ into my car to be trapping what I do (I wont even say cause its do low). But I hope a tune will remedy that.

daum, a 3.5 steel definatly cost some power right there i have a 3.5 aluminum that is 1lb lighter than stock and should hold up in the 8's

I don't think we still have enough info to help you much.

Need to know: suspension, tuning, transmission (clutch type or stall), tires, where do you run - weather conditions, etc.

You can make all the power you want, but if you can't put it to the track, it isn't worth shit. If you are making 400+rwhp, street tires are not the answer. Your steal D/S will not kill you times that much. With that much hp, and if you have suspension set-up, with the right tires, you should be in the low 11's. My SS is over weight with basically you set up - times are in my signature.

As far as suspension goes, I have the slp bilstein suspension option from the dealer, edelbrock torque arm, edelbrock trailing arms, edelbrock weld in subframe connectors, and Hotchkis 1" drop adjustable springs and airbags. All my tuning was done by cartek when they did my head and cam. I came out with even more power than they advertise on their website for the stage 2 package. My trans is a m6 with a cartek stage 3 clutch and my tires are bf goodrich kd's (I'm getting slicks and wheels over the winter when i have some money). I ran at island dragway in new jersey, it was about 55 degrees w/ 60% humidity

For drag racing, your suspension is marginal at best.

IMO the 1/4 time/mph is seriously influenced by the 1st 60'.

Try various launch rmp's. Don't "baby" it out of the hole. On launch don't just ease it out, dump it. You sound as though you have the rear-end and clutch to hold a 5000+ launch. Tires is another problem. Until you get some good DR (poss MT new ones) or slicks, you'll not get the 60' you are looking for. Try to get Harlan's 2-step to help out in the launch.

What are you shifting at? With heads/cam you should be able to shift at least 6500.

Practice. Vary your tire pressure and launch rmp. Don't assume that because you spin out of the hole you need to lower your launch rmp, try lowing your tire pressure. And get some good suspension parts. Going fast cost out the ass so try not to go cheap.

Hope this helps some. Your DA and/or DS is not the big culprit here. IMO its your tires and suspension.

I plan on doing 5000k clutch dumps once i have a set of slicks on my car and my rev limiter is set at 6500. what would be some changes I should make in my suspension?

My suggestion would be to look at others that are running 11's/10's. Set your goals. Street and some drag racing. Mainly drag race and some street? You have to make a decision on how far you want to carry your car to.

Look at my suspension set up (go to my site). The SS doesn't see any street duty any longer (mainly due to the exhaust and spool).

Make sure you have SFC, a good adjustable TA, PHR, get a good set of shocks (mine are QA1 but there are other just as good out there), a better rear sway bar. Oh yea if you haven't already dump the front sway bar (at least for track use).

Good luck

something is wrong. your mph should have been much higher. did you atap while you made the runs? probably not. i have atap and i'm in NJ so if you want to atap your car, give me a PM. i have cartek setup as well but with less hp than you and i trapped almost 120 last weekend.
