HELP! running out of gear at the top end
I am currently running a 4400 stall converter, w/4.10 gears and 26x10-15 ET Drags, and I am starting to hit the limiter at before the traps. Would just going to a taller tire help me? Any help on this would be appreciated.
TIA

Lynda, was nice meeting you and Clint at Thunder, I had a great time down there.
I had the same problem when I was stock internal. When the tranny was fresh I went through with no problems, as the 3/4 pack started to wear I started noticing that I couldn't go all the way through. My solution to the problem was to manually lock the converter with a lock-up switch. That solved the problem temporarly.
It sounds like to me you have tranny issues with your 3/4 pack. Take your pan of and investagate to see whats in the pan. I willing to bet thats your problem is. You will more than likely find alot of sludge in the pan.

Lynda,
You are still on the stock tranny aren't you? It may just be a matter of it slipping in high gear. You could lock the converter or raise the limiter up a little bit to crutch you by.

Yeah, you can try the 28x9 ET Drag .. but it needs a 8" rim.
Hoosier makes a 27" QTP in both a 10.5 and 11.5
Hoosiers 26x11.5 slicks are slightly taller than the ET Drags..
With the 4.10's I would look at ET Street Radials in a P275/60R15 (28x11.50-15) It's a little taller (27.6"), but it shouldn't grow as much on the top end.

limiter is already @ 7k if I remember correctly so we are definately not going to mess with that. Clint was showing me some Engine/RPM calulator online where he put in some info and said there has to be something wrong, so I think we are going to look into it what Hawkn01 said before we spend any money on tires or anything else.

LOL coach do you have the BFH and sawzall she'll need to try those tires out,too
ok if limiter is a 7,000...4.10 and 26" tire *should* logically clear the traps.
But here is an important Q i should have asked already...is this a recent issue? Like was the car clearing the traps until now with no changes made? Obviously if its just started happening then yeah, something is going wrong..

Clint and I have discussed it some and sometime next month the trans will be out of the car for some better parts. Have to do it as cheap as possible right now until I can afford to go to something better like a 4L80 or full built 4L60. Need to have it finished by Christmas time so I can catch the really good air in January Of course, like I told Clint, then the rear will go

Oh, and as far as tires go, my ONLY issue with going to a difference height would be that I would have to buy the same size tires for daily driving, or it will throw some stuff off. Being poor SUCKS!

You may need to add 100-200rpm for automatic cars to compensate for the converter slip.
The 28X9 ET Drags hooked very well for me, so well I had to run at 20psi because I lacked the horsepower at the time to pull the car out of the hole.
As said before the overall hight is only 27.3". If you are worried that it will throw your speedo off, it will only show about 5mph slower at 70mph with the ET drags over a stock sized 25.75" tire.
