A4 guys How do you launch
 

Ok A4 guys how do you launch your cars? I have tired it all from standing on it, to taking it slowley. My 60ft Sucks and i need some tips i guess. I have a 98 Formula A4 pretty well stock but some free mods. I did put 3.42 gears in it. At the track i run BF Drag Radials and still run 2.1-2.2 60ft Even on street tires is the same BEST I'VE EVER DONE IS A 2.09. lol I do run a 150 shoot but not till 3k-5700 I've tried not using in frist gear still no help. I usally launch about 1700 and i've done half to full, quarter to half to full stills spins. WHAT HAPPEND TO LS1 BEING WEAK IN THE LOWER RPM'S Thanks for any tips guys

You running an aftermarket convertor? What pressure are you running tires at?

I am using about 15-20 psi on my Drag Radials

14ish is what I'd run in bfg's, give them a nice smokey burnout. I always go around the waterbox, then burn them till I see smoke then count to 3. Practice makes perfect. 1.8-1.9's are definitely there to be had.

My car has 245/45/16 BFG KDW 1s..
I just found that they work better cold @ 20psi.

Anyway the car still spins all the way to second. Maybe the track sucks big time?

Do most of your Stand on it off the line or feather it?

When I ran my 2.0 60, I would footbrake the converter till the ass of the car came up (point of tires breaking) keep it there then floor it. That netted my best time. Can't do that with this new converter till I get tires. I tried to do that and fishtailed twice at the line. :jest:

Was friday the first time you've ran at a track? Because Muncie had no prep at all there. I have always pulled easy 1.8's there until last friday and couldn't do better than a 2.1.

Track prep plays a roll but tires, suspension,burnout,and launch are all up to you. When doing your burnout go around the water and backup to the edge of the water, spin the tires for a split second(so you dont get water on your fenders) then pull forward 10 feet and do your burnout. After the burnout do not do a dryhop(cause it takes the sticky rubber off the tires) just pull to the line. Stall the converter up between 1600 to 2200 see which works best for your suspension/power combo. BFG dragradials are pretty good with a 6-8sec smokey burnout, MT dragradials are great even better then ET streets according to many but only do a 5-6sec burnout or they may loose a little traction, Nitto dragradials are good as a street tire but not sticky enough for the dragstrip.

When I was At muncie He wouldn't let me drive THrough the water only let me back in. Arent' your supsose to stay in water to spin em?

Very good advice here. Almost exactly what I do, except I do a 5 sec burnout generally and then "walk" the burnout forward for 1-2 seconds more by releasing the line lock and let the car creep forward while the rear tires are still spinning. The length of your area between the water box and the starting line will dictate if you can do this, however. I bring the converter up to where it's tight but won't push my front tires through the beams.

Absolutely not. You are throwing water up in your wheelwells. When you are sitting at the line it will drip on your tires and cause you to spin at launch. And yes, only back in to the box so your front tires don't track water up to the line. That's why most serious racers hate front wheel drive Ricers. Those little turds track water up with their back tires.

Back into the water box, spin a little to get the tires wet (you can just stab the gas to spin and move out of the water box), then hit the brakes and do your burnout right in front of the water box.

Of course, I have seen plenty of people do the burnout in the water box, and I dont go to the track that often.

wow those times are not the best...my brother's intake/exhaust 94 z28 a4 gets 2.2 and 2.1 60' times (stock gears, no stall, regular tires) he takes off just like it were a stoplight

All the tracks that I've been to in Jersey have you go THROUGH the water box, especially ATCO (there's no way around the waterbox at that track). Also if you stay in the water, doing your burnout, you will spray the attendants and some of the onlookers with water too. They won't be very happy with ya.
