Default Wheel studs, did search, more confused than when I started..

Ok, so here's what I'm getting. A Moser 9" setup and I have 15x10 w/ 7.5" backspacing Weld Pro Stars out back with 15x3.5 Pro Stars in the front. I plan to NOT run spacers and grind on the calipers til they fit. To be legal, what size studs should I get out back? WIll the stockers be ok up front? What is the deal w/ pressed in, screwed in, knurl, etc, what's strongest and recommended? Thanks.

You will need some 3" IIRC front studs for the prostars and same in the back or maybe the backs are 2.5". I am using ARP studs and no issues.
Pressed In requires a Press or homebrew method of double lugs, tightening until it pulls the knurls into the axle fully.
Screw In, well, they have threads on the flange end that screw into axle rather than pressing in.
Knurl is the grooves for pressed in studs that bite into the flange.

to be *legal* you will need 3" long studs on all 4 corners with prostars. You can generally get away with having stock studs up front though.

The studs only have to pass through the center of the wheel to be legal, right? I run 2.5" ARPs in the rear and they stick out through the center of the wheel with plenty of thread to spare. In the front to be legal I think you'll have to end up running a 3" stud. The closest thing ARP makes in our size is a 3.125" last time I checked and GM does make 3" studs too but, I would stick with the ARPs.

they have to engage into the hex portion of the lugnut a minimum of 1/2 the diameter of the stud. This means for welds they have to go thru the washer a min of 6mm (if using 12mm studs) or 1/4" (if using 1/2" studs)

I had 1/2x3" screwin studs on my moser rear.

is this a new change cause i thought they had to engage the hex portion of the lug at least the dia. of the stud.

Thanks guys. So 1/2" x 3" or 3.125" long would be be adequate? I take it screw in or press in makes no difference?

I have the option of going with 5/8" instead of 1/2". Is 5/8" overkill or should I just go with it?

if you're strictly a drag car, go with 5/8 studs, it's definately stronger and you don't have to use the collared lugnuts. If you ever want to run something other than a drag rim though, you can't use 5/8" studs.

No change....you are correct, they must engage the hex portion of the nut by a FULL diameter. Not a 1/2 diameter.

Buckeye....get 1/2 x 3 screw in's. The screw in type is easier to replace if you need to down the road.
