Do G-Tech's really work??
 

Like the title says, do they work and how accurate are they? I need to work on my launching and I dont have time to go to the track everytime I want to practice.

They have a big tolerance (about 10 %) So you're trying to work on you're launching and cutting 2.0 60' the g-tech could spit out from 1.80-2.2

A big difference in 60's as you could be running 12.6's or 11.8's

If you feel that you could deal with that though go right ahead. I wouldnt buy one though.

Thanks guy, I did hear someone tell be there had a tolerance of like a tenth second, guess that isnt true.

I used one at the track a few years ago to see how close it was. It was within a tenth on every pass compared to the tracks timers. But the mph is way off. If you can find a level straight road its a decent tool I guess.

Was the 60 ft accurate?

The one I used was the first model from years ago. It had 0-60 mph times, but no 60 ft. times.

The first generation of the G-Tech accelerometer wasn't very accurate, and was a "pain" to use because it required you to level it up before each use, and set it on the top of a dashboard. Crude and not too close to real timing.

They have vastly improved them since then, so if you buy one of the very latest models, they're self leveling and much closer to real times. They now stick to your windshield and just need to be pointed straight with the center of the car, and just "eyeball" them close to level with the ground. If you want more accuracy, you need to find a perfect level road, or run 1/4 mile one direction, then run back the opposite way and average the two runs.

I personally bought a "Tazzo" about the same time G-Tech came out with their latest model. The Tazzo gives you the same outputs the new G-Tech does. It can be set to do sixty foot times only for practice. It can also be set to measure 0 to 60 mph or you can set it to measure the 1/4 mile, and it spits out your 60 foot time, your 1/8 mile time, your 1/4 mile time & MPH at the end of the run. It flashes them over and over in sequence until re-set.

You can also do some kind of VooDoo roll-on test at a certain speed, punch it to a given higher speed and supposedly calulate your HP & TQ, but I have never messed with that feature.

The Tazzo is fairly close when compared to my time slips at the track. I checked it a few times when I first bought it, and it read within 0.10 to 0.15 in the quarter, and always showed quicker than the time slip read. It also read high on the MPH by about 3 MPH on my car. I was told this is because the Tazzo and G-Tech both calculate the MPH over the entire 1320, not the last 66 feet like the traps at the track.

I like mine, and find it useful in testing settings on the suspension, shock settings, etc. via the 60 foot timer. I check the zero to sixty time once in a while just for the hell of it too. Not sure how accurate that part is either, but it used to say around 5.7 when I hadn't done anything but a lid and cutout with drag radials. Now, on QTP's with my mods it says I go 0-60 in 3.6 seconds all motor on the street. Haven't tried it on the hose yet. :devil:

For $99.99, I think they work pretty well. Opinions vary.

It's a very good tuning device once you get it calibrated properly....the only way to do that is by comparing the runs at the track.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that feature. They allow you to find out how far off they are from a given time slip, and then you can enter a factor into them to compensate for the difference. I never bothered doing this with mine. I know how far off it reads, and just adjust for it in my head each time. Good point Blue Six. ;)

I have tazzo and had old g tech pro and buddy has new g tech.I didn't like the old gtech much at all. No sixty foot,pain to level.

We ran the new gtech and tazzo in same car yesterday. Buddy marked down the numbers but on first run the tazzo read think about a tenth of the gtech on et forget if higher or lower and the mph on tazzo was like three lower or so but then on second run the mph on the tazzo was a couple higher and again the ets were within a tenth of each other. The 60fts were pretty close but not dead on either. We had good wheelspin on the second run so not sure if that caused more variance. I found my tazzo at track seemed to also be a 10th of track,forget if it was faster or slower and about 3mph high from track but 60ft seemed to be right on. I like you can calibrate it precisely to match your track if you want.
I don't think my tazzo flashes the 1/8 mile in a 1/4 mile run .Maybe that is on newest one?

the tazzo reads pretty close for me.about a tenth off,mph about two high.

I have a G-Tech pro and I hooked it up a couple times at the track and it was within a tenth, but 3mph off. I consider that pretty darn accurate for something you can buy for $27. Obviously you wouldn't use G-Tech times as the end all times for your car, but if you add a couple things and can't get to a track, it'll work just great to see what they did. ;)

Just have to know where a nice, flat, long stretch of road is... :secret2: :jest:

i have the old gtech and i ran a 13.28 at aTCO and gtech said 13.29. not bad huh?
