Default anyone do back to back track testing stock front tires to skinnies?

i have a 01 ws6 with the 275/40/17 front tires and would like to know what a set of weld draglight skinnies would be worth? thanks, mike c.

pick them up and you will know!!!! my ws6 wheel/tire is like 50#s......skinny tire/rim has got to be half that. Plus, that is reciprocating weight

I almost had an answer for you this past week, but as I made a pass with my ws6 rims on the electrical system freaked out on me. My plan was to swap my 15x3.5 draglites on and see what the car picks up.

I can tell you that with the frontsway removed and skinnies on the car seems to transfer weight a lot better.

You can figure your ws6 rims weigh in a 50lbs a piece, draglites with skinnies lets say 25 a piece. ( I just made these numbers up if anyone has the correct numbers please feel free to post them) 50lbs-25lbs= 25lbs x 2wheels equals a savings of 50lbs off the front of the car stationary weight. As far as coming up with an equation to figure out how removing that 50lbs stationary weight converts over into a rotational savings.. Thats a lot of math and I will gladly bow out and let the next guy step up to the plate.

A little surfing around on a certain mustang board I found to get a general idea of the rotational savings take your stationary weight and mulitply that by 4. I have no idea if that is true or not, like I said I just poked around for a minute or two and came up with that number. But lets play with that idea, 50lbs between the 2 wheels x 4 gives us 200lbs savings.

I had 17" SS wheels and actually weight them against my skinnies. there is a total weight savings of exactly 50 lbs when switching to skinnies.

Rotating weight depends on the rotation speed.

At engine speed, the factor is around 10x. 1 lb rotating = 10 lbs static. That's good for crankshafts, flywheels, etc.

Drivetrain speed, it's less, but I don't remember how much. That may be the 4x.

Wheel speed, it's even less.

My stock 16x8's with tires were 48 lbs each. (v6 car originally)
My 18x9's with tires are 55 lbs each.
My Bogarts with Moroso DS-2's are 21 lbs each.
