Any one running 15x12's?
 

I'm getting ready to order a new set of Weld Magnums for the rear since I'm having the rearend narrowed 3" on each side. Is anyone running a 15x12 or do you all pretty much stick with a 15x10 with 5" backspacing? Additionally, if any of you are running a 15x12 what backspacing should I get for that size? I'm gonna stick to a 28x10.5x15 ET drag if it matters.

I would stick with the 10's...I don't know if you can get too wide a rim, but a guy around here did it and it looked wierd and he had a good bit oftraction problems...went back to a 10 inch wheel and the problems cleared up. Just my opinion

Sorry...this was also on a 28" tire....If it were a 29.5....I would go with a 12"....I know that combo works well.....If you have the room.

a 12 wheel will put more contact patch on the tire. it will fit with the car mini tubbed

I just bought some 18x12's and plan on 345/18/30. Hopfully won't have to minitub even if it takes a month of the BFH

i will be running a 15x12 wheel with a 29x10.5W tire soon but my mini tub is not done yet, you will need the tub unless you what the tire to stick out past the quarter panel.

Ya but which back spacing for a 15/12

I have a 3in on each side rear also and I was thinking of running 315/60/15 drag radials so I was kinda wondering what wheel if I went with a 12in wheel also. Has anyone done it and has it on their car and can say that it looks way good.

My car is minitubbed and I am also running the Wolfe adjustable spring perch. I know I've seen most people running 10" rims so I did the same. Maybe I should have went with a 12" plus I didn't know what backspacing to get. Summit was going to have to order them from Weld so it might not be too late to change my order. Does anyone have answer to this question?

Here is my take on the subject:

10" wheel with 5" BS = 5" dish
12' wheel with 5" BS = 7" dish

So if you determined a 5" BS is right for you it will be the same on a 10" or 12" rim.

How do you determine what BS you need? Climb under the car and determine what your tire sidewall will come into contact with first. If you are not mini tubbed your tire sidewall will contact the frame first. If you are mini tubbed your tire sidewall will contact the LCA first.

Climb under your car with a flashlight and tape measure and check it out. Check out your manufacturers web site and find out what your sidewall measurement is on your current set up.

That is my take on the subject. Correct me if I am wrong.

Here is a pic of my set up with a mini tub and a custom offset LCA. My wheel is 6" BS shimmed out with washers 7/8" to simulate a 5.125" BS. {My new wheels are not here yet } :). My tire is a Goodyear 30" X 10.5" with a 13.0" sidewall.

You can see I have around 3/4" of clearance between my sidewall and my LCA. The side wall is nowhere near the frame, spring or shock. The LCA is my first obsticle.

You need to pay attention to the fender on the other side also. I have enough clearance to run a 29.5 X 10.5W with a 13.6" sidewall and I should still have enough clearance to lower my car.

Also, I have been told you should not run a wheel that is wider than your tread. Check out the tire manufacturers recommended rim size for the tire you want to run. I always go with the recommended rim size.

Mickey Thompson 29.5 X 10.5W with 11.2" tread has a recommended 10" rim.

Goodyear 30" X 11.5" with a 11.4" tread still has a recommended 10" rim.

I went with a 10" rim and I may or may not run the W tire. I personally would not run a wheel wider than the tread. But thats just me. :)

15x10 or 15x12
 

I ran a 33x10.5w on a 12" rim it looked fine to me, the 12" rim on something like a 315 60 15 looks weird i think, but the advantage is it pulls the tire out which allows you to run more air and have a tire that reacts faster and is more stable at high speed.

when running a 15x12 and 29x10.5w do you guys run tubes in the tires or not?????

No tubes here.

I used the Wolfe kit along with their offset LCA's. It gives a ton of space in the wheel tub (like 15.5" from the wheel lip at 12 o'clock to the tub/frame), but the LCA's only allow like 14" of section width before rubbing or hanging out.

I have heard of relocating the LCA's inboard, but I kept the stock locations. None the less, the 10" wheels work fine and still look good too. I went with a 4.5" backspace due to all the wheels that offer that configuration.

Ive got 15x12's on mine with offset lowers and minitub. Fits good and tire is 325 m/t. Tire sits right with no bulge.

Dopefed, if it's of any help I'm using a 15x10 5" backspacing magnum, wolfe minitub setup and will have my housing narrowed 3" as well. The tire that I'm going to use is a 29.5" tire.

What speeds are you guys going on the 12"? Any problem with wheel shake?
