Is it possible to go 7.99 in the 1/8th Ok guys i have a 99 auto trans am. Im tryin to break into the 7s, sounds easy enough but heres the catch im tryin to do it on all engine no boost or juice. Im already running 8.89. All that ive done so far is the fra, tbb, B&B exhaust, and just hpp3 programed it. It does have 20s so ofcourse they will be coming off and some stock 16 or 17s put on. Is it possible for me to do this with these mods: 3.73 gears, off road y, cat delete and tune, lid, cold air induction, underdrive pulley, ported mass air, ported tb, headers and im sure there are other boltons that i cant think off so please throw in ur advice. Id like to stay away from gettin a bigger cam and heads if i can. What would be the cheapest way to get there, and im gonna be doin this all myself one mod at a time so what should i start with? Thanks in advance. |
Take off some weight, get a good torque converter, lower control arms, torque arm, and some slicks and you will be there or very close :) . |
I have a 2000 camaro ss, with just a loudmouth, k&n fipk, and custom tune i went 8.0 in the 1/8. With nitto drag radials. Stock suspension and i did remove the back seat, my heavy subs, and the spare tire. But it can be done. |
I don't think you can do it with those mods. |
get a stall verter from any of the sponsers here.i have the fuddle in my sig and ran 7.925@85.65 on a 1.72 60' with nitto's. this was before the cam and tranny rebuild(hitting rev limiter on 2-3 shift). hope this helps |
Definately! My 2001 Camaro SS went 7.93 with only 15" ET Streets, Vig3200, Hooker LTs, cutout, FTRA and a lid ... that is all, no weight reduction! The key is initial traction (60'), on that pass it was a 1.65. |
I'll hit 7's soon. Just let me throw my TCI 4000 in there. I ought to obliterate the 7's. I'm running consistent 8.1's as it is on street tires. The converter and some ET Streets ought to do it. |
im gonna get gomer to tune mine also. |
it is most def that u can get into the 7's. I have a friend that took a 98 ta with bolt ons and a tune with a 4400 stall with stock 323's and nitto's went 797. the converter is where its at. |
My mods are similar to those you have listed and so far my best is 8.4, since then I have had a tune maybe I can get a 8.3 so I would have to say no to a 7.99 wth limited mods listed, although as kounsy said a big stall will get you there. |
it can be done with a stock stall and some tires easy. i went a 8.10 with street tires, ftra, cutout, lid and ported throttle body, minor weight reduction. you can it just by getting a tire and stall |
i dont see how in the hell all of you are running this fast? how far above sea level are you? im about 1000ft. above sea level and i have the mods in the cig and the best i was able to pull was a 8.4 with a 1.9 60ft....... oh, and if you go with a stall and radials id be looking foward to a 12 bolt soon after... |
I went 7.85 with full bolt on s and a 3800 fuddle with 16" mt drag radials ! |

7.89 with 224 cam, 3200 stall, bolt-on's and ET streets. |
Converter will get you there, my best 1/8ths & 1/4 were: 7.788 @ 87.810 MPH 12.274 @ 109.370 MPH 7.842 @ 89.090 MPH 12.262 @ 111.700 MPH |
Looking back at the date, it was at 3000' DA (elevation was 1100') and the 1/8 mile was actually 7.86 with a 1.68. :) It is all in the launch! |
I went 7.69 with mods in sig, Was done on 17in Nitto drags and 1.65 60ft. |
look at my mods. look at my 1/8 mile. lid only. however...i had the stock tune at the time and LOST 3 mph in the 1/8 because of torque management and i bounced the rev limiter like 7 times on 2-3 shift. had tqm removed and adjusted the shift points, i know i am 7.99 or faster, we'll wait to see exactly how much when the track opens. all you need is a 3000+ stall converter, sticky tires, and a TRANSMISSION tune to achieve sub 8.0 times. you should be close to 7.7 with all of your mods + the aforementioned. |
He'll just need a tranmission tune, not a full blown out tune which would be more expensive. |
