Default A4/4.10's/3800 stall/26" tire = too much gear?

Hey everyone...I've been milling this over in my mind. I have a 99 Z28, A4, full bolt-ons, F14 cam, 3800 stall/2.2 STR, and 3.73's. For tires, I'm running some BFG DR's on stock 17's, so if I'm not mistaken that would put me at a 26" tire. I was thinking about changing my gear out to a 4.10, since I drive on the street more than anything and that might give me the advantage for street racing, and even on the highway, it wouldn't totally kill my gas mileage. However, I'm wondering in terms of 1/4 mile if it'd be too much gear for my setup. With my tires, and setup (say low 11's), would I be able to clear the 1/4 mile without hitting overdrive?

In the 1/4 mile, I don't know. My rev limiter is set at 6800 RPM.

Ok, what is your shift point? ... and what do you currently trap in the 1/4?

6400 RPM. I don't know what I'd run with my current set up. I was trying to decide between my 3.73 and the 4.10 before I took it to the track.

You'll run out when you hit 120+mph with 4.10's.

if he runs all motor he'd probably only trap 114 or so..

Not true. I ran 11.20@120 with 4.10s and a 28" tire trapping at only 6200. If I would have put on the 26s, I would have seen more mph.

I went 11.3@121mph on 26's with 4.10's spinning... I went to 28's and went 11.0@122mph later. I was buzzing less than 6500 in either case.... shifting at 6600 or lower.

We'll see about that. I'm foreseeing at least a 120 trap speed.

How much power are you putting down? I'm right at 400rwhp with a very close set-up. Unless you plan on getting heads or a shot of n2o, your getting your hopes up for a let down. 114 is just about right. I ran with almost your exact mods and was trapping 114. Not sure what bolt-ons you have but I have just about all of them except the 90mm set-up. Even if you have that too, I don't think it's good for 6mph. I'm not sure how you got 120 but if your comparing your car to M6's they tend to trap higher but we ET better. I did get in the 11s with that set-up. I just upgraded to a 12 bolt with 4.10s and bogarts with a 27" tall tire. Hope that will get me low 11s but I don't think my trap will change too much. Good luck, just don't get your hopes too high.

Quick Reply: A4/4.10's/3800 stall/26" tire = too much gear?
