Default 6 speed launch on slicks... HELP!

well I managed to drive the car all day (like 10 hours to get to the magic 500 mile mark and break - in the new clutch and trans) the clutch seems alot better now, still has a little chatter but its bearable...
took it to the track too but didnt fair so well on the ET streets
I have never driven a manual car with slicks before so I got no clue how to launch it, only could get a 1.73 60' the car bogs no matter what I do
ill bring the revs to 5k and dump the clutch it will pop the wheels up, then bog
tried going to 4k and slipping the clutch out, and it will slip slip slip BITE! bog! fall on its face... is it just lack of horsepower or what? I could only manage a 12.25 @ 112.65 when ive gotten 11.90 @ 119 on nittos in good air.

Hit her with a 125 shot out of the hole and kiss that bog goodbye.

actually the nitrous is exactly what I was thinking lol i cut a 1.69 on nittos dumping the clutch ( i usually slip it) N/A the car woulda bogged, but on a 75 shot it hit hard and kept on moving!

What gear are you running?
How tall of a slick are running?
Both the gear, tire height and HP will have a lot to do with not bogging. If your gear is anything less then 4.11 then you need to stay with a short tire, 26"max. With 4.56 go to 28" tire. This is my recommendation for a NA M6 set-up.
If you have the correct tire height and gear and you are bogging, rev it higher. Don't ride the clutch or you will not have it for long.
On all my set-up that had a slick I was launching at 6,000 or high off a two-step.
Also you try adding a little air to the tires.

Good luck and keep playing with it you will find the sweat spot.

bob I am equipped with a 4.30 gear in the 9" and a 28" tall ET street
6,000 sounds good but what if it spins? I have stock suspension with a detached front sway bar..

I don’t expect it to spin much. A little spin is better then and bog.
A little spin will keep your RPM up as the car gets rolling. If it does spin it won’t light them up like a street tire.

tighten up your suspension if its ajustable.

my 408 has the same issue with 4.10's and an M6.

just keep launching from high(er) rpms until you can determine that it consistently spins.

Well no wonder you're bogging. That tire is too tall for what you're running.

I'm running 4.30's on 26" ET Streets on drag rims and hitting 1.68 60's dumping at 6k or so. I'm only trapping 108. My car bogs but shes still moving out of the hole decently. My tires spin a little off the line.

DA was 7400 ft on that run.

damn, I didn't notice you were a 'cam only' car. way too big of a tire. I'd step it down to a 26

last night the best launch I could get is revving it up to 5,000-5,500 and feathering the clutch just a little. it will usually pick the front wheel up and hook very hard, and then bog just a little bit (down to 4,200 RPM) but the 60' still SUCKS! 1.70 is the best I think if the track surface wasnt total **** I coulda launched a little higher

I cant afford another set of slicks right now, I think im just gonna hit her up with nitrous out the hole. should cure any bogging :-D

Not so fast my friend. I ran a 30x9x15 slick with a cam only motor with 6,500rmp dumps and ran 10.90's all day long in the Texas summer heat.

z28boysteve, check your PM.

try putting a little more air pressure in the tires, that way they will have a little give.

stick shift cars have no give, somethings got to slip a little because the motor is turning at 5k rpms and nothing else is.

im no expert, but this is always what i thought, so correct me if i am wrong

I cut a 1.68 60' tonight is that decent? I dont understand why the car is so slow though, it dyno'd at 400RWHP and tonight only ran a 12.08 @ 114.5

Its the heat man, my car usually runs 11.4's in good air and now the last time with shitty 1.94 60 ft was 11.99 at 117 mph. shitty track.

The heat will depress you but just keep in mind that the car loves cold air.
I run 4.30 gears with 255x60x16 M/t drag radials and the car will bog if it hooks at agood track at anything below 6000 and some times up to 7000 rpms with my aluminum flywheel. But it will pull a best of 1.59 on several ocassions .

i am usually in the 1.6 60's. my car doesnt have much give at all. i thought 1.6 was bad but now i feel a little better. i would play with your air pressure or up the rpms.
