Default weight of stock starter vs mini starter??? anyone know stock weight???

hey guys......

well, i wasn't sure where to post this, so since my car will be more drag than street, (although both), i was wondering if anyone knew the stock weight of an ls1 starter from a '99 car. i was told by Jeg's & Summit that the powermaster mini-starter is supposed to weigh 9 lbs.

my first car, a '79 TA, i had to change the starter a number of times thanks to heat soak from the headers, and i remember that was a 2 hand job if you didn't get the bolts in on the first or second try because my arm would be so damn tired from holding it up that i'd have to take a minute to rest it!!! LOL. the good ole days. anyway, a freind of mine said his ministarter for his ford was Super light and an easy 1 hand job.

anyway, let me know if you know.

thanks,
Dave

It's easy to change the starter on an LS1, takes 5 minutes once the car is up in the air.

Stock LS1 starter is very light, its nothing like an old stock pontiac or SBC starter. I doubt the typical lightweight starter weighs much less.

not quite! i just bought LX1's car on here. it's an ls1/6spd FOX body Notch. i'll be swapping a lot of parts over from a Notch roller i've had sitting around for a while, and swapping the manual trans over to a 3 spd auto. it's pretty tame now, running 12.5's on street tires, but ultimately i'd like to run well into the 11's with the stock longblock, mid 10's with a head/cam pkg, and eventually 9's on spray. here's 2 pics of it for now......

awesome man, thanks alot. i've got a case of heat soak with mine, and i was looking at replacing it if need be, but now i'm just going to go buy a starter heat shield for it and see if that helps.

thanks again. and btw...the aftermarket mini's are 9lbs shipping weight, so right about the same then.
