Default M6 Racers - How fast are your shifts?

I’m a granny shifter. I want to know how much quicker you better drivers are. I don’t know if there is a generally accepted definition of shift time so I propose the following: Shift time is the total time between the end of first gear and the beginning of fourth gear, not at WOT. This definition probably overestimates time-not-accelerating. Also, by this definition, shift time for true power shifters is zero, which is another inaccuracy. The advantage of my definition is simplicity. Obviously, other definitions are possible. Also obviously, you can’t know your shift times unless you use some sort of data logger when you race - I use HPTuners Scanner. To calculate my shift time I just count the number of data points that fit my definition and multiply that sum by the sample interval. For the attached run, my 1-2 shift time was 309 milliseconds, 2-3 was 436 ms, and 3-4 was 360 ms. Therefore, my total shift time was 1.132 seconds.

I've always wondered just how fast my shifts were, but I'm not about to go out and buy a data logging software to find out. I'd say I'm decent, I guess... I pushed a full weight 383hp car to 11.78 @ 116.2 mph.

I guess that's decent??

If the front of the car falls between shifts, you need to shift faster... That has always been my line of thinking anyways...

Simple scanning-only software is very cheap if you already have a laptop.

Only a bit better than twice as fast as me. I'm not as slow as I thought.

Damn Gary

Thats a lot of ET you're leaving on the table.

Attached is my log. The PCM doesn't seem to report anything beyond :00.1

1st and slowest run of the night.

Best was 11.8@112 on a 1.63 60'

Best of the night was 1.59 60'

Your sample rate is 10 per second. If you reduce the amount of information collected to about 11 or 12 bytes the sample rate can increase to 20 per second. That will give you 0.05 second resolution. Nice driving.

According to EFI Live data logger, not powershifting I'm @ .1[1-2 & 3-4] to .12[2-3] Seconds on a shift. When I am powershifting it does not record it because the accuracy is only .1 Seconds./

dont be scared, I would recommend a pro 5.0 or ripper shifter though because they have adjustable external stops.

the stops are bolts that you adjust so that once the car is in gear, the shift lever is touching the bolt.

so instead of pressing on your trans internals, you're pressing on the bolt..

and yea, you can beat on it pretty hard without much of a problem... just remember that you can be quick without alot of force. if you're shoving it into the next gear, you're doing something wrong.

i granny shift. for some reason in my old 89 gt & 93 cobra mustangs i could power shift hard, fast and never missed a gear. the t56 feels less strong to me and not as easy to shift.i already missed a shift once and blew the motor in my ta. because of the blown motor i'm afraid to power shift anymore and i know my 11.12 @125mph(all motor)(10.2 on spray) in the 1/4mi could of been quicker.

I noticed its harder to shift also. T5 and ST-10 were like silk compared to the t56. At least IMO.
