Let's Talk Safety... I'm planning on being in the 10's after this winter's round of mods. What are the safety items I will absolutely have to have? So far I'm planning on a better seat, 5pt harness and a 6pt roll bar. I'm also considering a pin-on style hood. If I were to do that, is there any rule on how many fasteners hold the hood down? How far apart spacing is? |
If your local track is NHRA-sanctioned, you can usually purchase rulebooks at the track tower, gate or main office for $10.00 |
Thanks for the input. That's the problem. I suppose I could see if I can get some contact info online. Trouble is, I'm stationed in New Mexico, doing a tour in Iraq, but I race at home in Kansas City. :jest: I believe they are NHRA sanctioned though. |
here is a quick ET reference on nhra website. the key is how deep in the 10's and is a 9 possible because that crosses the threshold http://nhra.com/tech_specs/ETQuickRef.html |
Awesome! Thanks REDGAR. That's a good starting place. |
You are welcome. Stay safe |
Just a tip. Don't just go minimum per ET. Gloves, boots, collar, diaper, fire extinguisher ect ect. Don't be cheap with your ass. The hood thing depends on the body style & MPH. Never heard of a rule. I ran my car for years with no issues, but after I started hitting 150-155 I had to add a few. The guys with a front lip added seem to love them. Good luck, thanks for a job well done. |
Thanks for the inputs all. mrdragster, I don't believe in cheaping out or doing things half assed. That's why my car is in the current state that it is. Standard bolt on LSX car, but it has more clutch than it needs, a 9" rear, HD driveshaft, and the suspension work well underway. My philosophy is that you have to have the foundation laid before you can build the house... Gobs of power and potential are worthless if I can't run at the track, put it to the ground or keep the car together. How long were you Navy? |
