Default Poll: What drag slick hooks harder Hoosier or M/T???

Just like the poll says: In your guy's experience which of these drag slicks (size being equal) hooks harder at the track? I've always run M/T ET Drags but i'm thinking about running a hoosier 28x10.5 cause friends have told me they bite pretty hard......

but i do like how the M/T's advertise short burnouts for proper heat in the rubber cause it'll help them last longer.... dunno what hoosier says about burnout procedures for their tires.....

Hoosiers hook good but wear out fast. also if you heat em up too much they get kinda gummy and won't hook. M/T seem to take more abuse while working just as good.

Yeah I myself have cut a 1.52 leaving on the footbrake with 3 year old MT ET Drags but i'm looking for what i can put on the car to cut some bumper draggin 1.3x's...... I guess the MT's will stay on the car (a new set not the 3 year old ones)....

I have heard wolfe racecraft recommend that once most slicks have like 15 passes on them or so they should be replaced cause the cords lose their spring in the sidewalls and the 60 foots will start gradually falling off.... if that's true then my slicks are DEFINITELY in need of replacing even though the wear holes aren't completely gone....

I used to run the MT's but the last 2 times I ordered them from Jegs the roll outs were off too much so I switched to the Goodyears (D3 compound). Roll out on one set of the MT's was off by 2".............2"!!!!!!!!!. I just got frustrated with them.
Just check that roll out B4 you run them.

What Wolfe says may be true, but only for super quick cars that hit the tire with alot of power. I'm talking cars running mid/high 8's and quicker. If your car is 9's and slower, I see no reason why the sidewalls won't last at least 75 passes, if not more. That's assuming your using a stiff sidewall tire.

A frined of mine runs a speed shop and he also runs our local heads up street car association. He said back when all the guys ran true 10.5 slicks, they did pretty well with tire sales with guys changing tires 25 runs or sooner (again 8 second rides). But when they started a UDR (Unlimited Drag Radial) class and these guys all switched to radials, their tire sales went in the toilet as the radials held up much longer on these high powered cars.

.

Hoosier works better on my slow car than Mickeys.
1.20's with Hoosier, 1.30's with Mickey's.

Took much more abuse, lasted longer.

Ran goodyear & Hoosier on fast car. Goodyears good for 1.00 60'

Never sprayed Hoosiers, good for 1.10 60', neither lasted that long at those ET's.

I was told Hoosier uses more synthetic rubber than Mickey, but that's just what I was told, I never called them.

I also rotate every 5 pass' no matter what.

When I had a 557" with N2O running in the 8's, I would only get 5-6 pass' before the tire would stop working, and the wear holes were like new. The sidewall was beat so bad it stopped working.

Everyone try rotating every 5 pass', I bet everyone runs better, more consistant. Especially fast guys, much more important than slow cars.

M/T here and I get 130-150 passes on a set of 28 x 10.5 x 15 slicks cutting low 1.5 60 foots. Not much burnout required either.

On our 57 Chevy pro-mod we run the extra stiff hoosiers, we've gone 1.04 60' and we do some HUGGGEEEE burnouts and we get new tires about every 6-8 passes....

interesting tire info in this thread.... exactly what i was hoping for....

I think I plan on either running a big set of M/T Radials or running my slicks about 75ish passes and replacing em..... expecting a high 8 second car....

If you are trying to run in the 8s neither the radial or the bias ply will last 75 passes. The best thing to do is if you run bias tires rotate them often like Mr dragster stated and try to run as much air in them as possible. It is amazing how alot of guys run too little air. Too little air will kill the sidewalls and kill traction.

Cool thanks madman.... what would you say is too little air for a 28x10.5??? I used to notice running low 10's that about 13psi was the sweetspot for my specific combo...... it was a good tradeoff between traction and controllability. at that psi i wouldn't get alot of tire walk on the rim..... anything less than that it seemed like the car was all over the place under power...... and 13 psi was pre burnout. won't the psi come up about 2 psi after a good hard burnout?????

I would agree i made my passes on 25lbs in my radial slicks. we tried 21 and it hurt the launch. I was on 2 year old 150 pass slicks though. Got a brand new set of drag radials to start this year.

We also found you need to keep the slicks or dr's at 50* or more. whenever we left a car sit on a set in the cold they would be garbage from there on.

m&h racemasters! www.intercotire.com i have tried hoosier and they were good. i tried m/t street & drags and they were ok. i borrowed a set of m&h racemasters from a friend, they i bought my own set. for me,they out hooked both m/t and hoosier. 1.42 60 foots motor m6 3,700lbs car. i run the 26x11.5x15 cheeter slick. i can get over two years out of a set easy w/40-50 track passes per year and lots of streed driving/racing.

Can you tell me what ET Drag stiff sidewalls are? I thought ET Drag were bias ply wrinkle wall full slicks?
