Default M/T Drags vs. M/T Drag radials...weight issues???

What do you guys think about the added weight of the radials versus the slicks...for the slicks in a 26x10x15 they weigh in at 22 lbs but the radials 275/50/15 are 30 lbs, that is addition 16lbs of rotating mass...

Is there any benifit of going with the radials over the slicks besides not having to deal with the pain of changing tires at the track...seems to me that the slicks would give you much better ET's...enlighten me please...

well i dead hook on slicks and that is with 20 psi so there is no floating on the top end...which is what i would figure the other benifit of radials would be...i think they are going to hurt my times more than help

the radials are much heavier but have less rolling resistence. i hooked harder on the radials and mph about the same even though i gained about 20 lbs of weight in teh tires!

I ran better on MT drag radials than I did with ET Drags & ET Streets.

I only raced an 1/8th mile but even in that short distance the lesser rolling resistance of the radial showed in my MPH. I had the 275/50/15 MT ET Street radial and also some 26 x 9.5 x 16 Hoosier Quick Time Pro's. The QTP's were 17 pounds, the radials were 30 pounds. Both tires 60' times were almost identical. However probably because the radials were heavier the 330' times were consistently .05-.1 second quicker with the QTP's. However, the radials out MPH'd the QTP's by 1-2 even in the 1/8th. I tried both sets of tires at the track many times with very consistent results. The QTP's were consistently .01-.02 quicker at the 660' but if I had run a 1/4 mile the radials with their superior MPH would have won out every time. This was back when my car was running 7.6's-7.7's in the 1/8th at 87-88, sometimes 89 MPH. Hope that info helps.

yeah great info....thanks i was just making sure that adding all that weight wasn't going to hurt me any mph wise...if i stay the same that is what i want...if faster that is just a bonus...

Here's another one for you...
My car with ET Streets 26 10.5 16's. Was exactly 1 mile an hour slower in the quarter then 275 17 Nitto's. Time was faster by a 1/2 tenth with the Nitto's (when they hooked).

I run better on the radials, they hold up much better on the street and they take less to heat up..
