Default All motor guys with 4l60e, what converter are you running?

I am at a crossroad with converter choices. I just had my second TCI converter blow up, this time taking out the trans. I always had good luck with them when I ran 10s with my '00 cam only, and that is why I went with them again on this car. This time I wasn't so lucky. I don't want to put another TCI in it and risk blowing up another trans. My tranny builder is saying go Vig, and my fellow local drag racers are saying go Yank. I am looking for a 4000-4400 stall range. The car is daily driven, and will be kept all motor. I am actually going for top 5 in the fastest bolton cars. Let me know what converter you use and your track times, and any issues you have had. Please keep it to 11 second cars and faster.

Old 98 Z had a tci 3800 and went 11.6's on motor w/1.55 60ft. Trans and rear let go so had it stalled to 4000. Cut about same times and 60 ft's. Never had a good spray run b/c trans was junk but spraying about 50ft out car went 1.50 60ft and 11.09 on around a 100shot. Never had a prob w/the converter.

I run the converter that you had trouble with. I used to run the PT4400 in the car back when it was cam only, way to loose for that setup. I would run the PT 4000 in the car, little tighter for the street and 60fts. just as good.

Yeah the TCI SSF4000 flashed to 5000 on the dyno. I think I am going to go with the Yank PT 4400. Most of the fastest SI guys are running that converter.

I am running a PT4400 also. Best run was 10.93 @ 122. 60' was 1.51 spinning pretty bad. Should have 1.4's with new tires. I am very happy with it.

TSP 383 w/ TSP Giant cam. Stock heads and 3450 race weight. I think it's doing OK.

My Yank is 6 years old. Then again either of them is a good choice. I have had great luck with both and I have had both blow up.

I had a custom TCI converter with the billet cover and it broke. Then I went with their SSF 4000, and that just broke & hurt my trans after about 100-200 miles and no passes, but TCI is making it right.

Did you order directly from them? How much did that run you?

Are you running a stock 10 bolt? Do you think this convertor would be alright with a 100 shot or would the 4000 be a better choice?

I had a TCI 3500 it was ok till it went out.
I now have a Yank 4400 and love it. 1.47 60ft ~400rwhp 3.73 gear
I had to have it quick for a points race and they helped me out.

I PMed you back on the suspension. The PT is a motor converter. If you are going to spray it, go with their SS line. Depending on your gear and tire combo, I would go with their SS4000. Anything more and you are going to blow through it and it is going to flash too high.

Yes, a stock 10 bolt out of a M6 car. I had the same thing in my 00 and ran several 1.4X 60fts for two seasons without a problem. I will be going to a 3.90 when I get my car back.

Have had Vig 5000 in my car for a few years (freshened up last year to restall). I've had 3.90 and 4.10 rears in there over that time. Ran as quick as 10.7s heads/cam in best da and have gone 10.5 so far with the 402.

I would of went with a ss series for the street,Chris car has the ss3600 and he went 1.57 60ft.His converter is tight compared to a pt. SS4000 would be my choice for a street car over the pt4000.my pt4400 shift extension is 1-2 ,6900-6100rpm. 2-3 6900-6200.

My car isn't going to see much street use anymore. I have a F150 now, and plan on driving that and towing the car with it. I do enjoy driving it, and will prolly still cruise the street on the weekends here and there, but the more and more I do to it, the more it is turning into a drag only car.

I ordered the PT4400 just like yours. Anything is better than the TCI's that have been breaking.

All of them have problems. I had a buddy that bought a Yank SS3800 and it came apart going down the interstate. I had one that had a TCI to fail and another that is having lock up issues with his Vigilante.

The PT4400 is a awsome converter for motor only but the thing that annoyed me the most about it is that i could hardly launch it on the street and if the track was so...so....then you might as well pack up and head home because it was not going to hook consistantly. My best 60ft. was a 1.481 with the PT4400 and 4.10s on M/T DR's when the car was 3350 w/me. Last friday i hit 2 1.45 60fts. in a row with the TCI 4000 with a race weight of every bit of 3500 lbs. w/me.

You can't go wrong with the Yank but be prepared to fight with it some if the track is not coming around. Mine seemed to like the 2400 rpm launch and if the track was hooking hard i could launch it a tad off 2000 rpms. Play with the launch and see what yours like. Shift extentions with it were around 5900 rpms off a 6900 shift,so around a 1000 rpms is what i was seeing. Good luck and have fun with the Yank

I know what you're saying. I had TCI's SSF4000 (budget converter) in the car for two years and went 10.80s with 1.46 60 fts. I had them build me a custom converter with the billet cover and the best parts available, and it broke. They replaced it, and the new ne broke again as well. All of the companies have their good and bad, but I have never heard of any one having problems with the Yank PT series. It always seems to be the SS series.

As fas as getting the car to hook, I shouldn't have a problem. I have evey suspension piece possible on the car, and it is all dialed in just right. Plus the track I run at is always hooking (Route 66 Raceway). We'll see once I get it all back together
