How hard can you leave on Drag radials?
 

I have an m-6 car, pretty heavy with a suspension set up primarily for straight line performance. I have 275/50/15 bfg's with a 10 bolt/3:73's. My best 60ft is 1.95 on them and was hoping for 1.8's. Is that possible? :usa:

Mike, i could only muster low 1.9s launching b.w 2500-3000 rpms riding the clutch and spinning bad, but honestly it is 100% because of the track prep. it is how they prep it. kcir hooks real nice on slicks, but still isnt good on DRs. at other tracks, including my hometrack in south florida, Bradenton Motorplex, people hit 1.7x all the time on nitto DRs.

its a few guys cutting 1.7's bolt on so i know you could get there if you master the clutch slip method ;)I know its a bunch in the 1.8's on drag radials

my nittos help me all the way to a 1.58 but im blessed with the A4 mod

I also bought a 2-step so I can dial in the rpm's that I leave at. I just want some consistent high 11's on drag radials. Thanks for the replys. :usa:

Heat them Nittos up good with about 19 lbs in them and come out spinning untill u feel them bite. Then pull up and pump your clutch. pull up to line and hold your rpms to about 4000 or whatever your track can hold and leave out off the clutch and when the car starts to grab hit the gas. this takes practice but I have learned to pull 1.7's at any track I go to and there are 4 of them in driving distance to me. At NoProblem raceway I have pulled 2 back to back 1.678 60/ft's. on Nittos drags 245/50/16's. :usa:

I was running my bfg drag radials at 13 pounds and leaving at 3500 rpm. I have only made three passes on them so they are still not "broken in" yet.

Depends on the track prep or surface. My best 60' w/ the BFG's so far is 1.710. That's at 20 psi and about a 5 sec burnout in my auto tranny IROC. I usually hook pretty well on the street too. But I went out racing the other night, and I couldn't hook to save my life. I had to give it 1/2 throttle until 2nd gear (about 45 MPH), anything more and I might as well been on ice. Still killed all 3 cars I raced, a 99 Cobra and 2 modded 5.0L's :burn: :drive:

MN6 cars need only apply. A4 cars are a whole different ball game. mike i DEF think there is a lot more in them since they are so new. my nittos needed a few hundred miles and about 10 passes to really start hookin well at the track.

not sure if he'll chime in here or not but a friend of mine with an 02 z m6 cuts 1.77's on the same 275/50 bfg's. no suspension mods, just a lid catback and prostars with no front swaybar. couldnt tell you his launch method though.

13psi is to low ,try 18psi with a 6sec burn out and stage quick.If track has some prep work times should drop.

1.77 60' on those same 275 50 15 BFG's, My launch method is just coming off the clutch hard ( almost a dump but not quite) but the major difference is the power, Im only running an LS6 clutch so on launch it slips enough to keep it from bogging and bites enough that it doesnt slip through the gears Im sure if I had a real clutch in it, it would hit too hard and spin

I have an A4, but before you think I'm jumping this post, I want to make a point that applies regardless of tranny: radial tires LIKE having some air in them! It makes sense based on how they are designed, way different than a non-radial slick, so the old rules you would use with slicks do not apply. Many people fall into that trap (including myself initially).

I read in Chevy High Performance and I think in High Tech also, about them testing DR's and finding that more air = better. Well, I did my own test at RCR. I did a couple runs at 18 pounds, and a couple at 30. Essentially the same 60', actually a few thousandths better.

BTW, my best 60' on Drag Radials is a 1.78. (I have a 2800 stall). This should get better in more favorable weather because since then I have made a couple suspension mods that really work, but have not reduced 60' and ET due to nasty hot, muggy weather.

As I said earlier, set them at 19 lbs and do a good burnout . come out of the burn out spinning untill the tires start to grab and let off the gas.
stop and pump the clutch to get full grab of the clutch and so the shifting goes smoother , start out at 3000 and work your way up untill you find your limit. Let off the clutch without sticking the gas untill the tires are grabbing and then stick it. It takes practice but I can cut low 1.7's at all 4 tracks in my area and some are known to suck. I have done 2 back to back 1.67's on 245x50x16's .
The only thing done on my suspension is a air bag in the right rear coil ,poly tourqe arm bushing and a set of lakewood lca's. I think I might hold the record with a 6 spd , if not let me know who did better :devil:

Hmmmmmm....my Nittos work GREAT at 12 psi.
