I would think that there are not too many guys running 3.90 gears. I could be wrong. What kind of car do you have?

I have 3.42s and a 4000 stall. Stock motor with bolt ons and I'm running 12.1-12.2 consistently n/a. 11.0-11.1 on a 150 shot. I use to DD the car. It's still daily driveable, just better for me to have a beater car.

I'm still running the 3.90 gears for now. They were the ideal gear for when I was SI netting me a best of 7.32 @ 90+ MPH in the 1/8th. Now I need much more gear (and stall) for my high RPM moto to get the most out of it.

Do you daily drive your car? I just bought a 9" w/ 3.89 gears and also have a a4 and going with the vindicator cam.

That is pretty my experience, too. I ran a Yank SS4000 and 3.73s for a while. Ran great at the track and on the street. Ran 12.0s with the stock motor and a 3,500lb race weight. I did not run nitrous though. I was tempted but I ended up going with internal mods instead of the hose.

Keep this in mind though... You can kiss any hopes of traction goodbye on street tires. My 315/35 Nittos were a joke and even my Hoosier QTPs wouldn't hook that well on the street. I could light up the Nittos at 50mph if I wanted to with just the stock engine.
