Default drag setup...need info.

i currently run 15x8 prostars with 275/50 mickey t's drag radials.
on bolt ons i was hooking nicely with 1.54-1.58 60 fts.

i installed a cam and fast intake. and now i cant hook for crap.

this past wednesday, went to track.

1.98
1.88
1.83
1.63 (aid of VHT)

i put down 340 before cam/intake, so. i assume about 370-380 now with tunning.

my cam is .585 .585 114+4

oh, before i forget, i started with 17lbs, then 15, then 14, then 13 of pressure on my 4 runs.

friends say i should go to et streets, making power.

but i seen cars hit 8-9s with drag radials. so i dont see the issue.

another thing i need to mess with the converter, to see where it likes to be launched at with the cam. i didnt get to do much testing...was trying to go for gold right off the bat.

so what is recommeded? im not changing my wheels. im asking tire wise

et streets? QTP?

any and all info appreciated...wanna be in the 1.48-1.52 60 ft range

try different combo's...that is the only way you'll really know. I would state the ET streets or drags will be lighter...which is better regarding rotational mass.

Side note, i'd consider changing your wheels though you don't want to...8" wheels are a bit too small for any of the tires you're considering or what you currently use. Your runs will be more stable due to sidewall profile.

so your saying, to try a 10" with the 275 drags?

or

buy 10" and get some et streets?

Absolutly, 8.5" would be the minimum wheel I'd even consider with that tire. I really don't want to get off topic from your post...figured I'd shoot some free advice to you. If you want to stay with your Prostar, choose their 10's. I try to mention in many of my posts to stay away from those smaller wheels stuffing larger tires that F-bodies can easily use.

You may even consider a true et drag. Drag radials can hook very well BUT you have to heat them up quite a bit...thus wearing them out quickly.

There is nothing wrong at all with those tires.......................
or the wheel size for that tire...........

Just like you said there are people running bottom 8's with that size tire...

Id look at your suspension 1st. What do you have for suspension right now??
Id say your Bogging the tires since you have enough traction now.... not leaving hard enough.... really this threads belongs in the drag racing section....

Ive ran these and the 325 Radials and i love them. so much better then the ET Streets.
Ive had no problems cutting low 1.4x 60' times and that was with 20 psi of tire pressure. These tires like to be hit hard off the line..... how big of a converter and rear gears do you have now??? Need more info about your setup... not just tires.

Get some QA1 R-series, or Strange front shocks. They will help transfer the weight to the rear much better.

My friend runs a 15x8 with a 275 60 15 and runs 8.30's with a 1.3's 60 ft in an auto, blown car.

An et street actually has a harder compound than a et street radial does.

I'd stick with the drag radials and do some chassis tuning and checking before I went and made a bunch of changes.

I run a street car. Big *** 9 inch rims and fat tires on the front and 315/35/17s on 11 inch rims on the rear. I've hit 1.67 times with Nitto DRs and all I got done is a BMR torque arm and non adjustable lower control arms and 9 year old stock shocks and springs and the front sway bar is still like it came from the factory. And the Nittos burn before they hook. So you definately got suspention problems.

15x8 is not too small of a rim. There are guys running 7"-8" rims and 26x8.5x15 (actually a 8" treadwidth) and they are going low to mid 5s in the 1/8. I personally have a 7.5" rim, 26x8.5x15 ET Drag, and have gone 11.71 @ 114 (1.57 60ft) in +1600 DA with just boltons and weight reduction. Like the others said, I would tune the suspension and get a good set of drag shocks if you don't already. Don't waste your time with ET Streets. Stick with drag radials or go to a full slick.
