Pic of Homemade Cold Air Intake Seemed to work very well.... car is an animal from 90mph and up...... very easy to make........ good for probably 2mph or so...... |
Is it a single inlet? |
yes.. i have plans to make it into a dual inlet.. should be easy.... |
I made one that uses the holes in the front on a camaro and drafts air into a sealed box that has 2 filters, then the hoses go to a "Y" into the TB. |
yes mine uses the hole in the front of the camaro bumper... |
Cool send me pics when you are done. |
My design. Was good for over 600RWHP http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...Picture008.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...r/PICT0003.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...r/PICT0004.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...r/PICT0005.jpg Pics of air filter http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...07Nov11002.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...07Nov11003.jpg |
very nice..these cars love that air...... |
I am talking about making a ram air from the 2 holes in front, not a cold air kit. |

I am talking about making a ram air from the 2 holes in front, not a cold air kit. Just remember every bend kills air flow. One of the reasons mine is so big and only two large rad 45 bends is to keep air flow up. Ram air does not even come into effect until much higher in the MPH range. Ram Air has been beat to death in many forums BTW. The shortest largest path yields the best flow |
I'm not seeing any of these pics, all I see is red Xs. |
i would be intrested in doing this to take some weight off the front end. Last time i checked the upper radiator plastic panel weights a good amount.... also im sure some there would be less heat soak can we get alot more pics? what will it do to the structure if you cut out the upper support? |
i will snap more pics this weekend when i am home..... i cut top and bottom supports out and made a new lower support and the tubular bar in place of the upper support.. my ramair uses just one hole up front on the bumper and no filter... i will snap lots of pics of all of this ....... |
any idea on the weight saved? |
the lower radiator support was probably 10 lbs and upper 8lbs or so... new support i made weighs maybe 3lbs.... not tons of weight saved, but lots of room and defintily alot more air... the intake is very loud.. |
hey it all adds up |
Using the 2 holes in front will put more air in the motor than a cold air kit. Even if we say the effects of ram air are useless until 90-100 mph, still how many of our cars run over those mph in the 1/4? Probably quite a few so we're talking about boosted power for 1-2-3 seconds over a cold air kit, IMO it would be a better way to go. |
exactly... my timeslips prove its advantage.. i am 2mph under my buddies SS H/C car in the 1/8 mile and i am 1 mph faster than him in the 1/4mile and that is me running out of gear... definitly worth while mod... i had a cold air kit before with a filter and was 3mph slower if not more.. |
looks like a goo setup... are you running a filter at the track or no? are you doing this for track use only or for driving anytime w// a filter? -brandon |
Not a bad rig... |
