At what point or DR's done

I have a pair of BFG DR that have very little visible tread left, at what point are they done?

WE TODD DID Nov 25, 2007 09:53 PM

They are past done. Depending on the car, some go as little as 6 passes, and they are taken off. Generally, on a street car, the wear bars are about it.

NJSPDER Nov 25, 2007 09:58 PM

when the cords show.

Hugger Nov 25, 2007 10:01 PM

NJSPDER and I think alike. They will still hook when they begin to show a few cords. Keep an eye on them and be safe! When I know that they are close I check them after every pass.

NJSPDER Nov 25, 2007 11:37 PM

hugger, have you noticed that once they get the tread all off you can go up 1 psi and still hook the same? seems to be the way they go, a few of my friends have tried it with pretty consistant results

Dave J Nov 25, 2007 11:56 PM

I always found them to hook a bit better when the tread is gone

Hugger Nov 26, 2007 09:33 AM

I never messed with the PSI. I ALWAYS ran mine between 17-19 PSI. I know that I cut a low 1.6 once and came back to the pits and was showing cords. That is when I retired them. I just know that I have run about 3 sets of BFG's to that point. Just use your common sense and don't do anything dangerous. I usually wait until I see the first signs of cords then trash them.

Getav8 Nov 26, 2007 05:56 PM

Thats what I thought but I just wonderd if people really ran them down that far.

I will began checking them after each run. They do hook up alot better now that they have hardly any tread.

Anybody know how long approx it takes from this point until they show threads.

koolrayz Nov 26, 2007 06:07 PM

I ran mine untlil I saw cords.

I have brand new BFG drag radials. But there on my street rims.

Ari G Nov 26, 2007 08:10 PM

they hook better bold

chrismorales75 Nov 26, 2007 08:45 PM

Till you see cords, then enter a burnout contest and finish them off :jest:

Brady Nov 26, 2007 08:56 PM

On our stuff, the bfg's worked better the balder they got. M/T's are quite different though.

I'm talking EZ street cars, not your every day drivers and mild street cars.

SSilverSSurfer Nov 27, 2007 07:40 PM
