Cam only guys, how are you cars running in the heat?
Summer time seems to slow down the 1/4 mile section at the track but lets see how everyone is doing on ET and MPH with your setups so that new cam only guys can get some pointers? Also it would be fun to compare our ETs.
Last weekend i tired out the new mods (LS6 intake, lightweight carpet and relocated battery)in some nasty air. Anyone help me get a DA for the run?
60ft. 1.63
1/8th 7.48@91.22
1/4 11.77@114.86
Going to make some converter changes because the 4200/2.5str does not hit hard enough for me and add my last bolt on in the next month and will head back looking for some 11.60s to high 11.50s. How i love the dog days of summer in the south

im running 60mph with the T tops out.. HAHAHA
its so friggin hot that I havent even been to the track. Hell with heads/cam most guys are in the 11.4-5 range now, so i say you're damn sure gonna see some 11.3's or better this fall! If I were still cam only I'd be happy with 11.78-11.8's in this dog heat!!
you're right on track for this fall

You can get hourly weather data by going to http://www.wunderground.com - select your city - and then select the date in the little history box. That will give you temperature, baro, and dew point.
Then you can go to a calculator like at http://wahiduddin.net/calc/calc_da.htm and do the calculation for DA based on the elevation of the track.
For elevation of the track you can go to http://www.racefan.com - and click on Tracks, then your state, and then select the track. A lot of times they'll put the track elevation in the data.

Andrew

9.7's at Centerville, AR on ET Drags. 10.1's on 3 year old 17" Firestones. All these in 90's at the Saturday T&T.
Cool air with this new setup is going to be fun.

Re: Cam only guys, how are you cars running in the heat?
I think those are good times, man. The colder weather this fall will probably net you some awesome times.
The way things are going for me, I'd be happy with those times on my heads and cam car. My best has been 12.1 at 111, best mph ever is 113. This was 90-95 deg with 100% humidity-real nasty weather for racing. The trans was slipping a bit on the shifts on those runs.
I'm STILL waiting to get my car on the dyno. Since those runs, I tossed the B1 cam aside in favor of an XE-R 228/236 112LSA. I also did some adjustments to the ignition timing. I'll tell you what, the car picked up some pretty good gains from those two changes alone, I can easily tell the car has more power than before. The next issue to tackle is to get the car on the dyno to see how far off the air/fuel is and then replace the non-hooking 26x11.5x16 ET streets. The car doesn't feel like it is spinning much off the line to me, but it has to be because the 60 ft times are high 1.6 at best.

Jordan

Re: Cam only guys, how are you cars running in the heat?
Thanks for the input on how your doing in this nasy weather. Fall will be here before you know but the south seems to get cooler in late october I calculated the DA of the 11.77 run last friday night +1878 DA with 94.62% humidity Thats some awsome weather ain't it??
Tim,things are going good for me and i'll plan a prescott trip soon so we can meet up
98TAauto,11.30s? im hopeing for better lol but i'll take what i can get. I think the intake helped more than i thought it would and im thanksful for that. Now it's time to put the new converter in and bust off some 11.60s
Jorday, what lift is that XE-R cam? I might upgrade cams and timing chain later in the year.
Knock!Knock! 10s are you gonna let me in?
Scott

Re: Cam only guys, how are you cars running in the heat?
Lynda, the 4400 will ship out friday so it will be late next week sometime before i get it and then i'll have to work it in my work time to get it installed. I'm going with a test unit TCS 4400/3.0 str with some other goodies that will push me way out there on my next track visit, with traction.
After talking with Derek today i would not be surprised to see a .15 tenth gain with this converter over my TCS 4200/2.5 str that is in the car now. I'll keep everyone updated on this converter

Frank, thats some good ET and short time for this time of year! Which converter did you go with? I need to get down to NPR this fall or winter and cut some good 60fts. and maybe score a new best in your backyard
Can someone make sure i did the DA calculation right? Temps. 80 degrees,Baro.29.97F,Track elevation 198ft.,Dew point 72* and humidity was 92%

Re: Cam only guys, how are you cars running in the heat?
Scott I have been using a program called Density Version 2.1(Racing Systems Analysis) for the last 10 years to predict et's and record Da. Plugging in your weather and track elevation I come up with +2568. That weather predicts a 11.74 at 114.67 for my car using your weather. I still run the Vig3200. TCS may make a good converter but 1.63 is a bit weak for what you have. Problem is if you get car to 60ft better you will really start breaking 10 bolts. You may need to take a couple of steps back and get rollbar and 12bolt to get to where you really want to be. Those 2 items will slow you down .20 but then you will be safe and more reliable and can then add power without wondering if you'll be thrown out or towed home. Frank95z

Re: Cam only guys, how are you cars running in the heat?
Frank,as far as a 12 bolt goes im not worried about breaking 10 bolts for $100 lol I have several sets of gears setting by along with a rebuilt 10 bolt just in case. Roll bar will be something i'll do later in the year for safety. As for the weak 60ft. yes it is weak but given weather and track prep along with a tight converter im sure i'll pick up with the new converter. Don't worry old timer im not about to slow down now and im sure your LT1 will be shakin in he burnout box the next time we meet!
