Default cutting out rear seat belt mount

I have a very large brace on which the rear seat belts attach to. I wish to remove this hunk of metal for weight loss. What is the best way to remove this item? It looks spot welded on. Should I grind the welds (there are a lot of them)? I am also cutting out the metal around the rear speakers...

Probably not a good idea to start hacking away at a vert till you get a cage in there. That brace behind the seat is vert specific.

Best way to get the brackets is with a spot weld drill bit. Kind of like a little hole saw. It's much easier that way. I didn't use one and wish I did. I drilled each one out with a drill bit, NOT FUN.

Is that bracket any sort of structural piece of is it just simply a moutning point for the seat belts?

I assume it is just a mounting point for the belts. I does appear to be quite thick though...

On a guess... 20-25 lbs total. The rear speaker panels were not very thick. The bulk came from the seat belt mount. I determined the brace was specifically for mounting the seat belts. Had it been a structural brace, it would have been secured at the ends as well. Small metal tabs no wider than my finger were the only thing attaching it to the wheel wells.

Any idea how to get the strips of tack welds off? Is there an easy way?

I don't see an easy way in removing aside from hitting it with a grinder. So now what do the rear sail panels mount to with that seatbelt bracing gone, or do you not care about that? I just stripped mine down in the driveway today and took just about everything out but the dash and drivers seat. Reinstalled the back seat top and the sail panels so Tyson at PAF can mock up my rollbar but it all just kind of sits in place there and isn't really attached to anything.

When are you getting yours done?

The rear sail panels only touch the speaker panel in two places. One of which is gone b/c I deleted the rear seat belts. The other place is very high up, right behind the top of the driver/pass front seatbelt mounts. If you notice, I left that area of metal (it has a black sharpie circle in the pics) so that the sail panels will still connect. With a 6pt roll going in a week, I am really not to concerned that anyone will be back there to mess with it.

The car is sitting in the driveway now, I am going to drop it off Saturday and he's going to fab it up, then send it to the powder coater and then in the car it will go. I am hoping a 1 week turn around but it all depends on the powder coating guy. I almost want to ask him what it would cost to do my wheels while I'm at it while the car is there. If it wasn't late and dark outside I would go and take a picture of what I think I'm talking about. I didn't see where the 45torx bit would fit w/o the metal seatbelt mount.

You wouldn't happen to know where to pick up those covers with the big "+" on them that cover up the torx bits for where the seatbelt ends are attached to the vehicle would you? I totally broke 4 of them.

Are they vert specific? I would go to a junkyard where they are probably free.

No, they're F-body specific I believe though. Junkyards by me won't let you pick and pull yourself. Some bullshit about insurance not letting people in the yard.. I'll have to check though. Whats the ETA on your 6point?

What about Mason-Dixon junkyard? They are in MD. I use them all the time for f-body parts... They always have a few v6 camaros. Anyways.. PAF is doing my 6pt March 21st. Are you going with chromoly or mild steel?
