10.5" vs 11.5" ET streets...
Is it worth it to go with a 26x11.5x16 tire over a 26x10.5x16? The extra width cant hurt it will it? These will be going on a set of salad shooters....the 11.5 is safe to run without a tube right?

Re: 10.5
The 11.5s will hook a little better both because they are wider and taller. A larger contact patch can only help traction.
You should also consider the change in overall gearing that the taller tire causes.
If you don't need the extra traction, the 10.5" would have a gearing advantage and is a little lighter...but then who doesn't like haveing a little extra traction?

Re: 10.5
Good point colonel. Would the 10.5 be enough to get 1.6 60's with my 400+rwhp car? The reason I ask is I got a set of the 10.5's for a really good price new and dont want to sell them if they will work.
Also would the contact patch be any bigger if it is a little big for the rim. With this being a 8" wide rim isnt the tire going to buldge alot?

Re: 10.5
What kind of 60ft time you can pull with a given tire is largely dependent on your track. For example, I've pulled 1.51s on 275/40/17 Nittos before...and I've seen days when I was lucky to pull that on 29" slicks!
You are correct that you lose some of your contact patch when the rim is too narrow but I still think the contact will be bigger with the wider/taller tire. I would much rather have a 10" rim with the 11.5" tire...but, I have run it on an 8" before. It's not optimum, but it works. After swapping to a 10" rim I found even more traction.

Re: 10.5
True, for some reason I always like to think conditions will be perfect.
I think I will try the 10.5's out since I already have them in my hands. Anything is a better upgrade over street tires right!?
Thanks for the experteice...

Re: 10.5
Since you already have the 10.5's and 8" rims, I'd just go with those.
Don't expect miracles at the track, but they definitely will beat the hell out of street tires.
I have BMR everything, Edelbrock TQA, QA1/Hals all the way around and I'm lucky to pull a 60ft in the 1.6's these days. But they are almost 2 seasons old and really worn. Barely any groove left.
When I first bought them, was before the TQA and HALS, I pulled a 1.59 3 times, and regularly in the LOW 1.6's. But they were sporadic, they'd hook for a couple runs, the spin. Those tires lost me I don't know how many races. Atleast 2 finals and about 10 semi/qtr finals.
Next year, I'm buying an extra set of 10" Pro Stars and some 11.5" slicks for the track! I only live 5 mins away and know all the cops in town, so I'm ok with driving on them once a week.
