Default New mods ... not happy ... opinions please!!

Alrighty here it is...

I live in ABQ, NM where the altitude at the track is 5800 feet.

My list of mods are as follows (02 WS.6)
Whisper Lid
K&N Air Filter
TR MAF ends
Bauer Ported TB & Bumpstop Mod
!TB Bypass
!Baffles
MAFT
TR-55 Plugs
MSD wires
SLP Y-Pipe
Cutout
SLP springs
Bilstein Springs
BMR STB
BMR LCR
BMR LCA
Pro 5.0 Shifter
Harlan Shiftlight (set at 6100 rpm)
MT E/T Streets

My best time with those mods was 13.6@104

I added a cam (216/.587/114) and springs (918's) and my best time was 13.41@106.1 .... I expected A LOT better with the cam than just .2 seconds!!! Anyone have any ideas on why so little improvement???

Readings from later on that night revealed Air Denisty at 8100 feet. I also took some O2 readings and I was running .938 at WOT. The timing was at 29.8 with no knock retard.

Any opinions and analysis are appreciated.

No headers? That's definately holding you back. Get some long tubes then find a track that isn't in the mountains

Could not agree more. Headers and altitude. And maybe you have to much tire with the ET streets since you are only runing 13.4 ETs?

2 tenths / 2 mph ~ 20 horsepower. Reasonable gain for a 216 duration cam, IMO. More gain with headers and good flowing exhaust *cough* cutout *cough*.

Gears? 12-bolt? Those help too. Launch harder, better 60', better timeslip.

Since I've seen many a person report better than 30 rwhp with the LS6 cam, which has less intake duration and only 2deg more exhaust duration, I was expecting about the same, if not a little more...and BTW I do have a cutout if I failed to mention that ... there's not much I can do about the alitiude (for now) but I also agree that headers would be a good improvement.

Also, I was wondering about the "too much tire". For next set of tires, I'm getting 25x10x16 vs. the 26x11.5x16 i have now.

My 60' on that 13.4 run was a 1.987 ... any launching suggestions on how to get that down?? I launched at 5500k with rpms building ...

another thing that's getting me is that a friend of mine ran nose to nose ... it was a very close race, but he added headers and BFG DR's and is running 13.1's now.

I add cam and ET Streets and only run 13.4's ... seems kinda wierd...

Did they open the track back up?

I was there in '96 and the track was only open 2 times.

With my '94 Z-28 first time I ran 14.9 @ 93 W/ K&N FIPK, Folwmaster muffler, and stock 2:73 gears.

Second time I went out ran 14.6 @ 94 with only change 3:73 gears.

The stock '02 manifolds and cats flow pretty good I only picked up 1 mph putting the Jethot LT and true dual w/xpipe on.

I still think you should be doing better, the emissions thing sucks, maybe FLP headers w/ cats and OR pipe?

Have you had anyone tune your car?

Being up there you might want to go with 3:73's

Good Luck.

soliari , I just did a 216/220 525/532 cam in my car , with tuning it turned out 342hp 380tq,, before cam I was making 311Hp 335tq. Your gonna need a set of headers to get the full effect of that cam.I think those manifolds are killing you. Dyno sheets> web page

Solari with the vig2800, mac headers, 3.73's, G2 lid and HPP3, K&N and a random tech exhaust on BFG drag radials on salad shooters(my old ones that brit has) and stock front rims, I was turning 13.3@103 back in the day, No cam. So something doesn't sound right. Free up the exhaust like the others have said. Get some pacesetters and that will wake her up. Sean ran into the same problem before he installed his LTs and then ran in the 12's after that.
And also keep at it, get the 60 down and she will scream. Temps right now are not doing anything for our numbers, so keep the hope alive lol.

Hey guys,Thanks for all the info ... I just got a new predator tune from DiabloSport. The car seems to be running better .880 O2's and 30+ timing. I also agree with the headers issue. I'm installing gutted cats this week just as a band-aide while I get headers.

I did do the corrected time for that night just a bit ago and it came out to 11.8@118...that doesn't help my quest for 12's here in Alb, but it does appease me a bit.

i think that all you need is 4.10s. alot of those little mods dont really make a big differents but with 4.10s and your ET streets you will be able to use all of the HP you already have. with just 4.10s and BFG DR's i was able to get high 12s with out even an air lid.
