well the local 1/4 has an event this weekend and the 1/8 mile track is tonight. Do 1/8 tracks do ls's justice because the top end the motors have and 1/8 mile is shorter? i know that most of my focus will be 60' times. i know nothing about 1/8 mile tracks any help would be nice

If you can get your car to 1/8 mile fast it will be quick in the 1/4. Most racers don't care or look at the 330' and 1/8 mile, trim those times to have stellar runs. Right now we could care less about what our car runs in the 1/4. We're trying to get the 60' 330' and 1/8' to specific times. Once those are in place it will kill in the 1/4.

i see you are from maryland, i am from montgomery county the only raceways that i know of is 75/80 (has been shut down for a while) and maryland raceway which is on the east side of the bay. where do you do your racing at?

You live in or near Columbus Ohio - local track is National Trail - Where is the 1/8 mile track?

I thought this is old fashion thinking but then I noticed someone else said it. To get to the 1/4 mile a whole bunch of other stuff needs to fall into place, first.

pacemakers in mt. vernon haha yea my friend with a cam'd lt keeps pushing me to go to trails. i keep telling him i need a stall and long tubes before taking it to the track. i mean i still beat him on the street so im happy haha

I think the 1/8 seems less impressive than the 1/4. For instance My went 8.61 in the 1/8 (which doesn't sound very good), but it went 13.30 in the 1/4 (which I think sounds better, to run low 13s, than mid 8s). The fact remains it you go faster in the 1/8 you'll go faster in the 1/4.

On the other hand there are some cases where 1/4 time aren't as impressive as 1/8, but LS1s seem to like the 1/4.

Lastly there is another issue that I dont like about 1/8s. When you run a perfect run at an 1/8 mile track, you can only wonder what it would have been in the 1/4. I've had that happen a few times.

I'm coming around to liking the 1/8 mile deal only cause it's less punishment on the car, engine, valvetrain, etc..... And exactlly what Phil said is right. You car will generally do the exact same thing from the 1/8 mile on assuming your shift points are the same...... All your time is figured out in the first 660 ft...... Get your car to hook, cut a nasty 1/8 mile time and MPH and the quarter will just be there.....

It's crazy to see a crazy fast 1/8 mile car. Like anything above like 115 in the 1/8 is pretty much flying...... I ran 6.77@102 in the 1/8 on the motor.... My goal is to get the car down in the 5's@115+..... the quarter mile ET's and MPH will just follow suit. I'm in cali and there are NO 1/8 mile tracks around but I still look at the times to see where my car picked up or lost time...

I only have 1/8 mile tracks here (2 of them). The closest 1/4 mile track is Bowling Green, KY. (2 hours away). I would like to go to Bowling Green once, but I am happy with 1/8 mile.

a stock LS1 will shine better in the 1/4 versus the 1/8 b/c of the sluggish starts and they seem to breathe better once opened up and rolling. 1/8 mile is better than nothing but I dig 1/4 better. A lot fo tracks are going to 1/8 b/c of shutdown area, time to complete a race, etc.

Not sure where abouts your at but there is irwindale every thursday night and like every other sunday or something like that. $20 to race and track prep is killer. Sundays are a bit better as its less crowded.

For us its easier on parts to run 1/8 mile. If we can find a tuneup to run 4.8-4.9 we know when we get to the 1/4 we'll be home free.

I have been running 1/8th mile since i do not want to drive 2 hours to the big track. I had to change some things around to run in the class though, these guys are fast, they call the class sportsman, stock suspension, 28 10.50 max tire size, problem is if you dont run 5.80 or better , go home. I run a 3.90 gear for the 1/4, but it was killing me at this track, so i slapped a 4.56 in it (helped a ton with wheel spin lol) and leaned on it a bit, I have the shift light set at 7500 in 3rd (mainly to know if it is going to hit the revlimiter) and it was on when i crossed the stripe the other day.....@ 134 mph so that puts me in the 5.3 sec. range, I wish I had a slip for that, since this track is not a real dragstrip, but im hoping humpy (wheeler ) decides to build one, still not bad for a old sbc with stock suspension

If you test and tune 1/8 is ok but if you bracket race or index race the 1/8 takes away all the topend games and the petalfest

I also dont think the 1/8 mile et X 1.55 =1/4 mile et conversion works too well

my 10.73 pass I went 6.80@101 in the 1/8th(1.49 60ft) and if you multiply that by 1.55 its 10.54

what formula do you guys use?

Just use your own formula. 10.73/6.80=1.578

My formula is to ACTUALLY run the 1/4 mile for a real time and not claim a "converted" 1/4 e.t.

But I'm only one opinion......

I agree, when going for a 1/4 mile time, I just go to a 1/4 mile track and run it, I dont think there is a way to exactly convert the times reliably. either way have fun though!

I bracket race at a local 1/8th mile track and I enjoy it. It is something that grows on you, because before this season I would race straight 1/4 mile or nothing at all. I love 1/8th mile, plus it is much easier on a car, especially forced induction motors.

FWIW if you run close to your dial along with your opponent there will be just as much pedaling as in 1/4 mile races. If you are packing a few numbers there will obviously be more pedaling at either distance track.
