Default Cut-Out on a Gmmg Exhaust?

Has anybody tried it?

Any gains in Hp/TQ, or does it flow so well that it would not be worth it.

Granted I have most of the bolt-ons, including Long-tubes, H/C, etc., but I am just curious if any gain from a cut-out on a GMMG is worth it.

Has anybody tried it?

If this is in the wrong forum..feel free to move it.

Do you really think you need more power with all the mods and internal motor mods that you have done?

Not really.

I am quite happy where I am at. It is just simple curiosity. I hear so many people suggesting cut-outs, I was just curious if that suggestion includes catbacks such as a GMMG.

No, if I really wanted more power and had the bucks, I would go with more cubic inches and work on that combo. But, I am very happy with the 346 engine and what I have.

Really it is just curiosity. It always good to get feedback from other members.

I appreciate your response.

Thanks.

From what I've seen, the GMMG is not the most free flowing exhaust on the market (sounds great with cats though). We have regularly seen 10-14 additional rwhp with a cutout on a 450rwhp engine.

I've seen the least amount of hp loss with the SLP Dual Dual and the SLP 2OTL exhaust. Sadly I don't think either are in production any more.

there wouldn't be a point in the GMMG if your going to use a cut out... maybe a elec cut out, open it up for the track, GMMG sounds real good don't want to ditch that exhaust sound

Thanks Patrick and all the other responses. LS1BLKSS I really like that suggestion about an electric cut-out. I am also very happy with the GMMGhigh-flow sound, even through the 'high-flow' cats)..so an electric cutout would give me an option on those few occasions where I really wanted to open up and gain a little more HP.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.

I have the factory SLP dual dual and I gained 16hp / 14tq with my cutout open. I love my exhaust but the I-pipe necks to 2.75" with some nasty kinks so I want to throw a 3" I pipe on there. I usually always pick up 2mph at the track with it open too.

Wow, Nitroused 383, that is very convincing dyno graph!

I appreciate you posting it. I guess I assumed the GMMG was more free-flowing than I thought. I have a similar configuration on my long tubes, where the Y-Pipe goes to 2.5 inches. Some people do not like that, but I must admit it gives you ample ground clearance.

Well, several well-informed posters have given me enough valid data to highly consider at least an electric-cutout. I do have good neighbors with little kids and babies, so running a cut-out 100% of the time is not an option.

I'll do my research on well-designed electric cut-outs and proper placement.

If anybody else has some comments or suggestions on the set-up or a good electric cut-up, feel free to post-up. I will use Search to look it up, but I always appreciate any constructive suggestions.

Thanks..

I went the cheap route and bought a $30 summit 3.5" cutout. I only open it at the track and it has 3 wing nuts that only take a few minutes to get off. My setup Y's into a 3.5" flowmaster merge collector than goes to the 3.5" cutout, maybe thats why I gained so much? Sometimes I wish I had an electric cutout but I know I would open it up in town and get in trouble. This keeps me out of trouble the way I see it.

i bought QTP electric dual 3" cutouts, havenīt installed them, wil do this month.
but my 402 needīs to breath better, iīm running kooks long tubes no cats, 1"3/4 to 3" X pipe and 2"1/2 crossovers to the Z06 TT catback.

donīt wante my car to have more loud in the neigbourhood and on the street , but then i can open the cutouts on the track... and hopefully iīll gain some trap speed too.
